We came up here from Colorado Springs yesterday, having heard that today's weather held ice and snow for today, and arrived just before dark. Good thing, too: the way here is long and winding, and without a GPS on board, we'd probably never have arrived at all! It is remote and lovely, but icy roads make travelling dubious. This morning there was no new snow, but icy fog had coated the trees with hoarfrost, and the surrounding pine/fir/aspen forest was enchanted with it. Some deer came by just... Thanksgiving in the mountains
Yesterday afternoon, Charlie, Rob and I drove up to Bailey, CO. It's about 9000 feet above sea-level, and the home of my best pal from high school who now lives with one of her daughters and son-in-law. The kids went off to his parents for the holiday, so she invited us to share turkey and trimmings. There is a great chance we will be snowed in with a 16 lb turkey, and trimmings, and 3 fridges full of food, not to mention, freezers and cupboards, plenty of warmth in a lovely house.
