TRY SOME MORE OF ARIEL'S STUFF. DOES YOU GOOD: HAS NO KNOWN SIDE EFFECTS

Poems: Suicide Bombers | Who Loves Me Enough | Silent Worship | Endless Night | Carpe Diem | Rejection's Land | Autumn Woods | Midnight Hunt | The Cat | Ariadne Of course this is a re-post, silly! But it’s different from the first time that I posted it ‘cos then it was without any context or comment; no notion of … well, where it came from, I guess. This post is like the previous ones, giving you some idea of my feelings when I wrote it; there ain’t many folks do that for you, are there? LOL.... Sign in to see full entry.

ANOTHER HELPING OF SOMBRE ARIEL'S STUFF

Poems: Suicide Bombers | Who Loves Me Enough | Silent Worship | Endless Night | Carpe Diem | Rejection's Land | Autumn Woods | Midnight Hunt | The Cat | Ariadne Keywords. Most of the poems in this series are re-posts; but not simply reposts, for I often think how nice it would be to set the poem in its proper context. What the poet is trying to say is of course obvious ( or if it isn’t, it damned well should be! ) but what exactly was in her/his mind in writing it? Did they have one particular... A PROD TO ALL OUR TENDER WESTERN CONSCIENCES. ARIEL'S STUFF

Poems: Suicide Bombers | Who Loves Me Enough | Silent Worship | Endless Night | Carpe Diem | Rejection's Land | Autumn Woods | Midnight Hunt | The Cat | Ariadne I recently came across a news item about Professor Yunus, the founder of this bank http://www.grameen-info.org/ being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize; and if anyone ever deserved it, he does! How much more effective to lend the poorest-of-the-poor women a handful of dollars to enable them to earn a living, than it is to line the pockets of... Sign in to see full entry.

MORE ARIEL'S STUFF ( HAD NO INTERNET ALL DAY. This is Spain, see? )

Just lately, for a variety of reasons, I have only been able to post a couple of pieces and read one or two posts, so I haven’t acknowledged all your welcome comments. I shall get around to doing so soon, I promise. I’m a stickler for courtesy, see, and I feel restless and somewhat guilty when I feel that I’ve committed this particular form of discourtesy. Lady Ariela and I – and many of our well brought up friends – lament the demise of the “ Thank you ” letter, and indeed of so many formerly... Sign in to see full entry.

LEST WE FORGET

Mankind – for which, read “ men ” – are infinitely ingenious in devising means of inflicting suffering and death upon their fellow humans: at least, it was almost exclusively men until recent times. But the Holocaust – or Shoah, as I prefer to call it – opened a window into the hitherto unexplored and grisly country of female sadism, and yet, as far as one can establish, the subject has received little further attention. In the rounding up of Jews and others for deportation; on the long, deadly... Sign in to see full entry.

WHAT A HOOT!!!!

This is the funniest article I've read for ages! ( Can't sleep, see, so I've been reading The Times online. ) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,6-2402932,00.html Sign in to see full entry.

ONCE YOU START MESSIN' AROUND WITH PHOTOGRAPHY YOU DUNNO WHAT'LL HAPPEN!!

No mainstream publisher would ever publish this story. Why? Well, ‘cos it doesn’t “ show”, it “ tells ” – the worst sin that a writer of short stories ( or book ) can commit. Tut! Tut! Ariel, you leave nothing to the reader’s imagination, do you? It’s all told narrative, and as such, it’s … well, not to put too fine a point on it, old chap, it’s crap. So I suggest that you either take it elsewhere; or better still bin it. It’d be a lot of use my expostulating that a lot of people like to be told... Sign in to see full entry.

I GUESS WE'D ALL WISH TO LEAVE THIS SORT OF LEGACY. ARIEL'S STUFF

Don't ask me why it's double spacing, 'cos I don't know. Ask Blogit. THE LEGACY OF LOVE What boots it leave a legacy of worldly wealth and power when I might bequeath when I am gone, a legacy of love to those who have loved me: those whom I have loved? ––0–– The joys that stem from earthly wealth are trivial and fleeting: never once outweighing the priceless gift of love, to they who have loved me: from those whom I have loved ––0–– When my days are numbered, and I have left this earthly life,... IS THIS GUY ARIEL A CLOSET CHRISTIAN, OR A HYPOCRITE? YOU SAY LOL!!

Poems: Suicide Bombers | Who Loves Me Enough | Silent Worship | Endless Night | Carpe Diem | Rejection's Land | Autumn Woods | Midnight Hunt | The Cat | Ariadne I must admit to having a soft spot for this poem, ‘cos someone once told me it was “ sweet! ”. Uh, huh, sweet, eh? Now normally, I don’t reckon I do sweet, ‘cos isn’t “ sweet! ” supposed to be anathema to serious pert? A sort of pert kiss of death? I mean, sweet pertry’s what respectable ladies, in, well … say Cheltenham, or even... Sign in to see full entry.

NOT LOVE SPURNED AND LOST LOST THIS TIME. MORE SOMBRE ARIEL'S STUFF

Any humane person must be outraged and disgusted by the behaviour of those who deliberately set out to kill and main the innocent in a political cause, but when that political cause is masked by religion then it is a true abomination. Equally revolting is the spurious claim to “ martyrdom ” of those who slay themselves along with their victims, for the true martyr dies alone for his faith. Those throughout history who have died for their religious beliefs would find it incomprehensible, and a... Sign in to see full entry.

A BIT MORE OF THE SAME SORT OF WISTFUL, QUITE SAD ARIEL'S STUFF

Here we go again! Double spacing; the last thing I want in a poem. That's why I have to put those widgets in between, so you know where the verses are. Damned untidy way of doing things. Damned Blogit! I'm sure Byron wouldn't have put up with this; someone's head would have rolled;or been horsewhipped. WHO LOVES ME ENOUGH …? Who loves me enough, that when I am down, he offers me his hand, and says “ You are my friend, and being my friend, you shine a light in my life”? ––0–– Who loves me enough... SPURNED LOVE. BETRAYAL, ABANDONMENT. IT'S ALL IN ARIEL'S STUFF. TRY IT!

Love found, and love lost: callous betrayal; is there any greater anguish that that? Certainly not death – at least, not for the deathee – for death is a dark and dismal road to oblivion, wherein, we hope lies peace. It is those left behind who mourn and grieve, and yet with the spool of Time unreeling comes the healing of psychic wounds, and few are those unfortunates who immure themselves in a Miss Havisham-like, zombie existence ‘cos they were stood up at the altar. Is any guy worth that,... Sign in to see full entry.

THE SEQUEL TO " ENDLESS NIGHT " JUST A BIT MORE OF ARIEL'S STUFF

I don't know why this damned program insists on making my stuff double line format! Below is “ Silent Worship ” the poem that I said that I’d repost today; the one that derived from yesterday’s poem “ Endless Night ”. of course, it is radically different from Georg Friderich Haendel’s song “ Silent Worship … “ Did you just see my lady, go down through the garden singing? ( Something, and something ), setting the alleys ringing?…” I guess you could Google it, to read the full monte. It was once,... Sign in to see full entry.

A BIT MORE OF " ARIEL'S STUFF ". ( USED TO BE MY BLOG NAME, YOU KNOW )

I have always been fascinated by people’s emotions, and what motivates them to do the things that they do – and don’t do, when they should. And, as you will possibly have noticed, if you’ve been paying attention, the pain of the loss of a loved one figures quite prominently in my work. On thinking about it a little more, I reckon it figures a lot! I think I might trawl through my work, and see just how much. Last year, I had a lovely Spanish lady in Madrid translate some of my work into Spanish... Sign in to see full entry.

DUH! HE'S STILL AT IT! BANGING ON! AND A BIT MORE ROMANTIC ARIEL'S STUFF

I’ve just been asked by email to undertake an interesting and challenging project: to write a defence of bullfighting! The magazine’s about to publish an article on the subject, and naturally they have lots of antis, but they want one pro. Damnit, I’ll do it! And I’ll post it here after publication. Of course, you know what “ Carpe Diem ” means, don’t you? Looking back on it, round about 1999, when first began to realise ( or maybe hope, you’ll think ) that I had some meagre talent as a writer,... Sign in to see full entry.

JUST ANOTHER LITTLE SMIDGEN OF ARIEL'S ROMANTIC POETRY

I can’t remember now if this is the first poem that I ever wrote, or the second, which was “ Endless Night ”. That was definitely the first poem that I had published, and it gave birth to short prose piece ( a vignette, on one side of an A4 sheet ) called “ Silent Worship ”. I posted both of these last year, but me bein’ a little serial re-poster, I think I’ll re-post them soon. I don’t know about you, but I’m always fascinated to see how another writer’s works develop and progress ( I hope! ) I... Sign in to see full entry.

LITTLE SLICE OF OLD-FASHIONED ROMANTIC POETRY (Dunno if it's a repost )

I do like to try my hand at this sort of of poetry from a long-gone era! Can't you just imagine some pale and wan ( they're always pale and wan ) swan-necked swain swooning with desire for his haughty, cool lover? Or some wale and pan, long-haired ( they're always long-haired, greasy too, I bet ) poet languishing in his draughty garret, penning this heart-wrenching load of old codswallop to his bird. And she, on receipt of what may well prove to be his last plea for mercy, sniffing disdainfully,... Sign in to see full entry.

TONIGHT, A LITTLE BIT OF SAD AND WISTFUL ARIEL'S STUFF.

It was thinking about Steve, that friend of ours ( who was recently killed by a hornet, while on holiday in France ), that reminded me of this piece, that I wrote some time ago. Come to think of it a long time ago, and when I dredged it up from the bowels of my computer, I was amazed to see that it was written in a former life; that one when I lived in the dreary old England that I hated so much. From feeling that wistful, regretful “ Gosh, how time flies!” sensation, I got to thinking that well... Sign in to see full entry.

A LITTLE BIT OF ARIEL'S RELIGIOUS STUFF. SURPRISED???

I’m very busy right now applying coat-on-coat of varnish to all our exterior wooden doors and windows, and a. I’m just not as fast as I used to be, and b. I don’t have half the energy either. I keep forgetting that I just ain’t twenty-one any more. This job’s been nagging at me for some time, and I shouldn’t really have put it off for so long, ‘cos this Spanish summer sun, and the torrential rains, in season, are merciless to woodwork, and our gorgeous doors in particular are looking downright... THE LAST PART OF " THE LOVERS". MAYBE NOT. MIGHT BE A LOT MORE TO COME.

The Lovers. Part whatever. The Pilgrimage. Part two. ( Isn't it? ) Jane had often speculated what her life might have been, had she and Warren married and she gone to live in America with him, and in her more wry moments, she pictured herself as a badly overweight American matron – mother of how many children? And how differently those children would have been: raised and nurtured in the radically different environment of America. Radically different in so many ways, yet gruesomely identical in...
