Thank you for your comment. I'm a little tired right now ; had a hell of a day, one way and another, so perhaps I can refer you to my comment to Pat_B.

Thank you very much ; I am deeply moved by your reactions.

There are baad tears and good tears, and by moving others to tears perhaps we can keep in our minds the things that we need to do to make our world safer for succeeding generations.

Sounds precious maybe, but it's what I feel, Pat.

My reaction: tears...
damned things, tears. sign of weakness. redden your eyes, put the wrong wrinkles on your face...  Excellent poem -- all it needs is to be set to music--where have all the flowers gone? comes to mind.  Thanks, El Tel! :)patb

You shouldn't have done that. You've gone and made me cry. That is so beautiful. Never will there be war with compassion again. The boys of too many generations have been made foes. Beautiful work. Thank you.

Thanks for calling in, Mr Zonit. LOL

The things is, see ( as inarticulate folks tend to say ) that troops of both sides in 1914 were all fired up and' rarin' to kick ass. They hadn't had the guts knocked out of 'em in that bloody mudbath of Flanders yet. They had not yet had a nice whiff of the gas that wrecked my father's health.

Quite a few officers joined in as well ; a thing that the high up brass would never admit.

Nearly time for bed here.

Hi El Tel

Yeah, I think virtually all of the combatants would have loved to have done that, wouldn't they? The frustrating thing is that the powerless - the soldiers - are dictated to by the powerful, who say that they must fight. And if not, they used to get shot, or abused by their fellow men.

Cheers, Tony
