Bessie's Wedding Night -- from my '90s collection.

Bessie the barmaid and George from Hamstead fell in love at the pub and decided to wed. And then to the doctor did they promptly go, birth control information they needed to know. Doc explained all the options, the pill and the rest. They decided that jelly for them would be best. The wedding was... Sign in to see full entry.

A Poem For Computer Users Over 50

A computer was something on TV, From a science fiction show of note, A window was something you hated to clean, And ram was the father of a goat. Meg was the name of my girlfriend, And gig was a job for the night, Now they all mean different things, And that really mega bytes. An application was for... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting in the Christmas spirit

Couple days ago I was making my way through traffic, approaching St. Someone's from the south. To my right was a one-block strip mall, to my left a small city park and the library. This northbound main drag meets the east-west main drag at the corner by the Church. There's always a slug of traffic... Sign in to see full entry.

Isolated -- a poem inspired by TAPS...

ISOLATED Just me and my fellow bloggers, here by the fireplace, ignoring the travelers making their way through the snow on Quiet Street, listening to Thelonious Monk, the blues played by a genius. They say he lost his mind, mother used to say you had to have one to lose it. She was right about so... Sign in to see full entry.

My friend Klaus...

His right arm didn't work right, he could grip with his hand, but not lift the arm. He had to learn to write with his left, and his handwriting bordered on illegible. He walked with a kind of shuffle on the right foot, but walked a lot, therapy he said. On Seattle's hills, he'd get a good workout.... Sign in to see full entry.

Good news, I think: NO MORE LOUD COMMERCIALS...

I keep forgetting to mention this -- the U.S. congress is working on, or about to pass legislation to make it illegal for the networks and cable, etc. to broadcast commercials louder than regular programming... I hate it when the commercial comes blasting louder, especially if I'm just dozing off.... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Friday!

It's overcast, but the sun just popped through. We're supposed to get snow later. No worries! I've practically finished my holiday shopping. All I need is to get over to P.O. and pick up a couple of those "if it fits, it goes" boxes. Token gifts this year to all the grownups. Books mostly. Another... Sign in to see full entry.

I was in love with this wrong guy

but it felt so right. I mean, he appreciated me. But he never really "got" me. Looking back, I see the thing he appreciated most was the difference. I was not like his ex. I had ideas we had never talked about. I had not begun to point out his foibles. "foibles" -- isn't that a great word? Mine... Sign in to see full entry.

When Love Kills...

There’s no burial, but there is ritual: “I will survive” on the juke box girl talk and alcohol, meaningless embraces, telling yourself time heals all wounds. Efforts to forget merely freshen memory, but attention to mundane details, work itself eventually softens jagged edges. Then comes comfort in... Sign in to see full entry.

Stepped on the scale this morning...

The one that usually lies to me, shaves about 8 pounds from the numbers on those dreaded scales in the doctor's office. Ohhhh, noooo! I've been a hundred and plenty for a while. Lost twenty or so on the "cancer diet" in 2008. I asked my doctor what a uterus weighs, thinking at least two or three... Sign in to see full entry.
