I think you've missed your vocation, Pat. Architectural and interior design is what you should have majored in - or have you anyway?

An excellent description! I followed you through the house, and I can even smell something - there is just a hint of turpentine and boiled cabbage...

Re: Kabu I want to go and spend time in that house, perhaps restore
the garden.... Actually, these days, there are creepers up over the back porch and the sidewalks are bordered with low-growing, old-fashioned flowers. The owners are into the history of the place, and work to keep it looking right. I love the idea of a piano in the parlor... Thanks for the idea.

Re: adnohr: The tragic event happened in the kitchen....
In re-reading the newspaper report, the cops found Isabel's body on the bed, dressed in her coat, but not her hat -- since women wore hats whenever they went out in those days, they figured she was killed as she was getting ready to go out -- Later testimony showed that she was leaving her husband, intending to seek shelter with a woman friend.

all I can say is I want to go and spend time in that house, perhaps restore
the garden....a large vegetable section, beds of flowers and trees and creepers hanging over the fence and along one wall. The pull handle for the light....I loved that touch...do use it in the write...so authentic. every piece of furniture every floor polished and dust free as I could never achieve. perhaps a piano in the parlour......our cat used to tinkle the ivories when she walked the length of our piano....and frighten me half to death. Talk about Halloween...must go this isn't my post...just got carried away with the beauty of the house and a by gone era.

a little over done, you lost your focus away from the murder, absorbed in the artifacts of the house within your imagination

Sounds like your imagination has it down right for the story!

I don't think the original layout could be any more real that what your imagination just painted. I walked through those rooms with you. The tragic event happened in the kitchen, between the table and the wood stove? Or was she trying to get out the door?
