I seem to remember there was a movie with this title back in prehistoric time - the '70s - some of us thought a little romp between lunch and suppertime was a good idea as long as the kids were out of the house. Yes, there was a time we could let the kids out of the house to play with their friends... Sign in to see full entry.

I apologize, he said. I hope you know I really have no control over it.
I was so hopeful yesterday. The birds had come to the diner at the usual times, gathering for gossip, twittering in the bayberry bush between visits to the feeder. The squirrels were there, the older mama one I call White Ears and the one I think is her son, but I could be wrong about that. A trio... Sign in to see full entry.

The Buzz
March is a significant month for me. Four of my children were born in March. And there's St. Paddy's Day. The First Day of Spring! Flowers begin to bloom. Trees begin to bud. I reach for the Claritin and carry Kleenex wherever I go. I clean a closet, sort and pitch. But this year? March feels like... Sign in to see full entry.

Intrigue: Romance or what passes for it...
On our journey through the writing life we have to deal with ego. Some people have a high opinion of themselves - think they're smarter than the average bear. It's a trait we can use to blind them to what's going on under their uplifted noses as we plot our story. Maybe it's just me, but I kind of... Sign in to see full entry.

2016 and the vote
I'm already cringing about who's running. Both parties the Dums and the Rips, are lining up their ducks. People in the upper One- or Two-Percent are preparing to back their puppets. Perceptions of The American Dream are wildly different from neighborhood to neighborhood -- even house to house. We're... Sign in to see full entry.

Brisket...
I usually get a brisket for St. Paddy's - let it cook in the crock pot. Seems to me the slow cooker was invented for just that cut of meat. Looked at the prices, thought about how many meals it would make and decided to drop by Arby's for a Reuben sandwich instead. Son Joe - who's back with the... Sign in to see full entry.

Movie Night
It's Saturday. SNL is getting stale, even though they brought out a blast from the past last night, all the superstars from yesteryear spoofing the Oscars and Emmies and all with their Five Timers smoking jackets and fake-superior attitude. Timberlake as the new inductee seemed at home among the... Sign in to see full entry.

How long does beer keep in the fridge?
I bought Guinness for Christmas when I had the kids over. I was the only one who sampled it - there was another brand available, and nobody seems to drink much anyway these days. So there are five of the six-pack still in the fridge. I seem to remember someone telling me beer doesn't age well. Come... Sign in to see full entry.

Hennery the Eighth...
I used to love this song - "I'm Hennery the eighth I am, Hennery the eighth I am, I am, Just got married to the widow next door, she's been married seven times before. I'm her eighth old man named Hennery, She wouldn't have a Willie or a Sam. I'm her eighth old man named Hennery It's Hennery the... Sign in to see full entry.

A New Piece of Flash Fiction - writers' group assignment
At our last meeting we decided to pick a subject and write a short piece - fiction or essay or whatever - on that writing hint. The one we picked was "Doorways." Here's the first draft of my assignment. DOORWAYS After Jude was certain she was under the portico, he pulled away, leaving Audrey... Sign in to see full entry.
