Yesterday I wrote a short blog on politics, something about maybe seeing a light at the end of the tunnel, but by the time I finished it I was so discouraged by the negative tone, I decided not to post until I’d thought it over. Re-reading didn’t improve it, nor did it seem a thing one inflicts on... Sign in to see full entry.

TOO DARN HOT
Last summer was unusually mild if memory serves. I don’t recall 4- and 5-day stretches of 100° coupled with swampy humidity and a heat index of 105 or so. I know it’s worse in the desert southwest and I shouldn’t complain, given the relatively uneventful weather we’ve had here in the Greater St.... Sign in to see full entry.

WHY DON’T FROGS HAVE WINGS?
For some reason this morning I got to thinking about marionettes and legends about a guy who sold his soul to the devil in exchange for power and wealth. Once again it crossed my mind that kind of bargain is a con game. Seconds later, as I sat on my porch with a cup of fresh coffee and listened to a... Sign in to see full entry.

Prepping for the move
Watching HGTV this morning – The Property Brothers show where they help a home-owner upgrade, sell and buy a better place – when a break came. It seems HGTV is holding a drawing, $25,000 for remodeling. Now they want to know what I’d do with that cash… 1) I’d have a new door built as walk-out access... Sign in to see full entry.

WRITING PROMPTS
I couldn’t come up with a single idea for the Write Your Own Story group. Abdel had told me on Tuesday he wouldn’t be at the class due to a schedule conflict, so this would have been an opportunity to pick a couple of “girl” topics. It crossed my mind (and was immediately dismissed) to make one of... Sign in to see full entry.

THE DOORBELL RANG
Some time back my doorbell stopped working. This was a blessing, because it was tuned to the same frequency as certain electronic car locks. Any time there was something going on at St. B’s across the street and someone would click their car lock, my doorbell would ring – and it’s only got one sound... Sign in to see full entry.

“POOR FOLKS HAS POOR WAYS…”
We were seated on a bench under the bus-stop shelter on a rainy afternoon in Seattle. She had a shopping bag and a large black leather purse in her lap, her bandana was tied at the base of her neck. She seemed tired after her day’s work. I said “How you doin’, Hannah?” She just smiled. We often... Sign in to see full entry.

SOU -OOO-EEE PIG PIG PIG!
Holler that out with a bucket of slop in hand as you begin to pour the melon rinds and potato peels, etc., into the trough – and in two shakes of a curly tail, the sow and her piglets will be up to their squinty little eyes in slop. Careful, now, don’t get between them and their trough. Hogs have... Sign in to see full entry.

THE STRAW THAT BROKE THE CAMEL’S BACK
A few days ago I started a post about a semi-retired thug who’s recently come back to town. I wasn’t happy with the tone of that post having written it while really ticked off at the brass-coated gall of some people! So I zapped it and wrote something lighter. During the Obama administration, there... Sign in to see full entry.

Résumé
One thing I used to do on the job was set up professional r é sum é s for grad students at the end of the school year. This was before the days when Word had built-in styles to guide you on setup, the order of info and code words potential employers might be looking for applicants to use - words...
