Little kids sure cry big fat tears...

Today half way through my early morning 'little kids' class, (two hours of 22 second- graders), one little girl just suddenly started howling and crying! She had a very tiny splinter in her big toe (from the day before) that I guess she decided really bothered her. I think it is so funny the way... Sign in to see full entry.

I drove the Dragon to my classes today...

The kids had all been asking to see the bike... they were so cute-- especially little Alex--big eyes, little round glasses, spiked up black hair-- a tiny studious dynamo. I brought them in small groups out to see the bike and really wished I had brought my camera. They crowded around the Dragon,... Sign in to see full entry.

Had to kick 'loud guy' out of class today...

'Loud guy' is either going to behave in my class or he is not going to be in my class! Today, after being awake at 3:30am, dealing with two hours of unexpectedly young but very well- behaved 2nd and 3rd graders, a lunch break and then my regular class of 3rd and 4th graders, the 5-6 graders came to... this is the week...

Well (gulp) this is the week that I teach the extra 2 hr/day 'writing workshop' at the Chinese American school! I'm up WAY too early- (5:30am) so I can wake up at my normal pace (slowly) before I have to leave. I spent much of the weekend preparing for this busy week because I'm teaching my regular... My mom is at her 60th high school class reunion today! (And a cool photo)

Can you imagine going to your 60th high school class reunion??? I know they all wear name tags; people have to do that even at their 10- year reunions because looks change so much. Think of the reminiscing that is going on right now! How cool that she can be there! Who would you like to run into at... Sign in to see full entry.

I think it's OK for a teacher to admit she doesn't have all the answers!

Today I gave my 'older kids' class (5-6 graders who really think like high school kids) a really difficult cross word puzzle. I have figured out that crossword puzzles and word search puzzles are a good way of increasing vocabularies... uh...for the teacher too! It was a great bonding experience--... Nanaroo and the Dragon... on the road again!

It was wonderful to be back on my 'Dragon' today! After that 'clumsy stop' incident the other day, I needed to be back out on my beloved bike-- confident, happy, safe, and feeling totally sharp-- and I was all that today. My hubby and I both had the day off. We went for a nice ride, had lunch out,... Sign in to see full entry.

I never thought I would have students who wet the bed!

The kids in my 'younger kids' class today were regular chatterboxes. I think it must be the effect of the full moon or something-- they were so goofy- at times, all I could do was sit and laugh! Once, we were talking about asparagus and artichokes and a little girl said, "oooooh, I heard those... Sign in to see full entry.

The kids are keeping me hopping!

These bright little students are really keeping me busy. I keep coming up with more and more difficult material for them and they tackle it like the little troupers they are. Yesterday we did compound sentences and semi- colons vs. commas and once we reviewed the rules about this, they sailed... Sign in to see full entry.

Gotta have a talk with 'loud guy' today (and the 7pm update)

I'm doing my homework, getting ready for my classes today and I'm also preparing to have a talk (outside of class) with the 'loud guy' who has been so disruptive. I'm not the kind of teacher who yells at kids in class; I think that is just an awful thing to do-- but I have to do something to get... Sign in to see full entry.
