I should have realized that coming out of my 'cocoon' and being around lots of sniffly little kids would expose me to germs that my body has no defense against! This week I battled a nasty cold that started with a sore throat and went on from there. I'm pretty good at managing my immune system and... Sign in to see full entry.

Sometimes staring at the walls is OK
I'm home after a really busy day and am very glad to be just sitting here by the light of my laptop, kitty at my side, hubby not home yet, listening to quiet music and really enjoying not talking to anyone except, of course, you guys!!! No one is asking me any questions, no one is whining about not... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Birthday Dad, wherever you are...
He was no crocodile hunter, but he was very brave. Dad flew B24 bombers in WWII, flew many missions in the early morning London fog through fields of flack, smoke and darkness. Growing up, he could always be counted on to carefully explain whatever I had questions about. He loved the opportunity to... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, don't miss this movie!
We saw the movie, "Little Miss Sunshine" today. It was just my kind of movie, full of imperfect characters, stumbling around trying to do the right thing. Alan Arkin plays 'Grandpa,' a drug-addicted soul with a heart of gold, helping his granddaughter create and practice her dance for the pageant, a... Sign in to see full entry.
The Dragon is a champ...
... and she has a new motorcycle maintenance guy! On Friday, I drove the Dragon to her new maintenance shop. Jeff, a former marine, has a little shop set up in his garage-- the kind where you can pull up a chair and watch everything he does while chatting about worldly events. It was wonderful!... Alice in Wonderland
Picture a little girl about 7 years old (Alice)... sitting in the front row, looking like she is doing aerobics with her arm, waving it wildly to be called upon at every question in class. Huge smile, shining eyes, dark hair. Today, she said to me, "You have thin eyebrows." I said, "Oh, I don't know... Sign in to see full entry.
Have you ever felt like you needed a vacation... from your life?? That's how I've felt this week. I'd love to just trade places with someone for awhile. Sorry I haven't written but I have been lurking somewhat-- in between taking care of hubby who has been laid up all week with a bad back, cooking,... Sign in to see full entry.

Smarter than they know...
My new 'younger kids' class went really well today. These little wonderkids are much smarter than they realize, I think. Today I gave them some difficult cause/effect problems that some of my 6th graders had experienced difficulty with and they buckled right down and got it. I love it when it comes... The kids were giving ME tests today!
Today I found out that my class of 'older kids' (5th and 6th graders) like to make up funny little 'tests' to give their friends. They include little brain teasers, questions like, 'look at the egg that the rooster laid on top of the peaked roof-- if it tipped over, which way would it fall?'... Sign in to see full entry.

Why I do what I do...
Today, as I was getting ready for this week's classes, I realized that it is a labor of love for me. I do all kinds of non-paid preparation to make sure I am very ready with excellent material for these little dynamos. In my classes, I make every effort to get to know all the students individually... Sign in to see full entry.
