Whole Wheat and Art

Well, here you have it. On my first morning in Amsterdam, at 7.30 AM Agnes and I walked to the bakery, which only sells whole wheat products. The picture above is of the Hartog family that owns the shop. The man to the extreme left started it and has now died. The man next to him now manages the... Sign in to see full entry.

In Amsterdam

Well, I am here in Amsterdam. It's 23.10 local time and I am sitting in my friend Agnes's house, at her computer. The first thing I want to ask is have you ever noticed how the air is different in different countries? Our travel route was Delhi-Frankfurt-Amsterdam. When we landed at Frankfurt, and... Off to Europe

Tonight I leave for Europe, to visit friends in the Netherlands and France. My husband had a work assignment which is taking him to Washington DC (Where I lived for 8 years). My son, studying in Ohio, will join him for the weekend. I will stay in Europe. I will visit my friend Agnes in Amsterdam and... Sign in to see full entry.

Intimacy!

I just finished an article on intimacy for my regular monthly piece in the magazine Life Positive, published out of India. I like the word intimacy and use it often. I think about it in my relaitonships and miss it with some who cannot offer it to me. So, when the editor asked me to propose some... Sign in to see full entry.

The Hangman

On Sunday I saw a film called The Hangman. Made by an Indian film director, it is the story of a man (Shiva) whose job was to hang people, a profession he inherited from his father. His wife (Parvati) disapproves of the way he makes a livelihood. Their son i(Ganesh) is a happy go lucky young man,... Sign in to see full entry.

Coolers to beat the heat

Coolers are life savers in the hot Indian climate. I have several favourites. These are aam panna; bael sherbet; nimboo pani and lassi. Aam panna is made from raw mangos ( aam ). The raw mangos are boiled, their skins removed, and the pulp is mixed with water, some salt, black pepper and a little... Sign in to see full entry.

Loquats-A delight for the tongue and eyes

Do you know this fruit? It's called loquat and I just finished a small bowl of these. Two days ago, my husband was shopping for groceries and asked what I wanted. Something special, I said. That evening when we came home and as I was unpacking the groceries before we went to bed, I saw the loquats.... Sign in to see full entry.

The Graduate, lost entry

Yesterday I wrote a post on The Graduate. Just as I was about to click on 'save and post' I lost it. Then, I lost it. It was hot, I needed to do something else and I decided not to re-do it. As I complained under my breath, my husband said: I told you - always do it in word and then upload it on... Sign in to see full entry.

The Storm - within and outside of us

Since I posted the last blog on my mother, a great deal has happened. First, I got an overwhelming response for my fellow bloggers. Then, as I had posted it to some friends and family I herad from them too. All this was very heartening and revived even more memories of my mother - in good ways I... Sign in to see full entry.
