it is and it isn't typical. The melodrama is missing and the usual song and dance is too. Its actually a very powerful film. Only, it could have been shorter (its two hours) and edited better.

Yes, it was a preety bad time. The movie was done very well, and the character development of all the players was very smooth and admirable.

but it does have a good ending. Shiva discovers another child and its like a gift to them. I'm not sur I woudl call it 'happy' but it's not a tradedy int hat sense. Ofocurse the death of their son is.

The characters have the names of a mythological God- family. The word myth might be debated but having several hands is not real. The movie might have benefited from that. Besides, Shiva is known as the destroyer and Ganesh is the God of wisdom/knowledge. The movie family shares traits with the God-family!

I am a great fan of Indian films, the life and the colour appeal to me. But I have to say I prefer happy endings, I'm a bit of a wimp about tragedy, and I don't think this one would have appealed at all.
