Yet, for our own sakes, we have to move on and rebuild trust among those we love and encounter. Sometimes memories of difficult experiences keep us from moving forward. We have to constantly remind ourselves: this is not the same as last time.

Intimacy can be so difficult
And I do agree that most of what we learn about how to deal with people we also learn as children. It also seems that as people in our lives do things that hurt us, it becomes more difficult to be open and trusting of the next.
