Wednesday in the Pac NW

Here it is, evening fallen, rain no longer falling after a day of it coming down steadily. It is no surprise, really, what with one of the kids having a cold, that now I have a cold starting. I'm feeling off and on fevery, and listless, tending to fall asleep in front of the tv, or reading my book: the usual for the first day or two. Now the nose is beginning to drip, and there are occasional mighty sneezes. The grandkid seems to have kept it to only 2 or 3 days, so I am hoping that getting... Sign in to see full entry.

Wet Monday

This morning east of Seattle the precip was undecided, going from rain to snow to rain, then snow again, and finally has settled on Just Very Wet. After a breakfast at one of my favorite Seattle spots (they serve johnnycake with real maple syrup!) we drove down to Olympia to visit the Farmer's Market there. I went straight to Sea Blossom Seafoods and picked up some different kinds of cold-smoked salmon. It's my favorite flavor of the Northwest! We tried some of the silver salmon last night. I... Seattling in...

It is wet in the Seattle area, and chilly but not really cold outside. They say it will get up to 50F today before sliding back into 40s and maybe 30s. This is the first time I've been out here since Louisa, now 2, was born, and though we have been in touch quite a bit since then by video, this is the first time she has seen me in three dimensions! It took her a half hour, maybe, to be okay with that, and we are still a ways from cuddles. That's Louisa: She doesn't care to be touched by anyone... Sign in to see full entry.

Calm down, December!

The winds suddenly died down after 3pm, and all is very still now. No trees came down around here, a neighbor did lose some shingles off the roof, and my front screen door is totalled from banging hard against the door frame. Internet was gone for a while, and came back an hour or so ago. Without that or Netflix available, I got some more trip prep done, and read some more pages of Umberto Eco's THE NAME OF THE ROSE, which I've been hankerin' to read again since the movie doesn't seem to be... Windsday!

As promised, the wind is blowing this morning! I was up around 4, and heard it in the trees outside, and moaning through a gap in the door, and realized there were things that needed bringing in out of it. I was out there on the deck in my scanty jammies, taking down the glass and metal bird feeder, and gathering up all the cushions from the chairs, and the tables that were out there. Just now, near 10am, I remembered the wreath on the front door, and brought it in. Handy, that there is a nail... Sign in to see full entry.

Things are getting done...

Today. Absolutely today... The packages will be going to the UPS store this morning! By the time they were all wrapped and labeled and packed, and Charlie's additional thing or two included, it was too late last night. So, this morning they go! https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C Finally got up on flickr some of the sunrises, the puppetry show, and one of my visiting cats--the same one currently lounging on the little carpet by the back door. Now, breakfast, then getting dressed, then off to UPS. I really... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday

Yesterday was one of those days where nothing planned or intended got done. By the end of the evening (which went on far too long as I watched a British mystery show that takes an entire season to resolve a story), I was feeling glum and overwhelmed by all the stuff not faced and dealt with. It isn't the quantity of stuff, really, but the quantity of decisions waiting to be made. I've never been good with decision-making. So, last night, as the show wound down to a conclusion, finally, I went... Sign in to see full entry.

Time to get packing...

Here it is, near 7 AM and I have been up for almost an hour. The sky grows light, a pale blue tinged gold towards the eastern horizon. All's quiet after a stormy, cloudy day and a windy night before. The rolling, framed duffle-bag has made its way upstairs from the cold, dark, back of the garage to my room, and it is with relief and delight that I report that all the gifts destined for Seattle kith and kin have been successfully fit into it! There is even room to stuff a few items of clothing... Sign in to see full entry.

Friday morning visitors

Big Orange Cat, Black Cat, and Squirrel were here this morning--Foxy Squirrel outside only, but BOC was just leaving the warm night-place when I came out this morning. He stopped for a bit of a scritch between the ears, and then was outta here. Black Cat--Not sure if he came from downstairs after a night in the warm, or came in while I was puttering around, but he also accepted scritches and pettings, and purred. This one seems the least out-doorsy of the three that visit, the most sociable, the... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday night visits

The sun is bright today, slicing across the house... every smidgen of dust and filament of stray fluff is lit up on this keyboard and dances in the air. As fast as I wipe the keyboard, new dust settles on it. Temps will be up around the 50s today, but it was cold enough overnight that Big Orange Cat and Pretty Fluffy Tabby both visited before bedtime. PFT was eager for pettings, collapsing on the floor and rolling over for tummy-rubs, and mewed sweetly, needily... I put fresh water and some food... Sign in to see full entry.
