Friday soundtracks

I woke after a good night's rest around 7 this morning, feeling energetic and ready to get some things done! This is a change after a low-energy week, when I wasn't out and about. It is really about about feeling chronically overwhelmed. As time resolves dated commitments, the pressure lifts and that feeling of being swamped gives over to I can do this, even if it's only one step at a time... Canned goods got put away, from yesterday's food shopping, coffee got made, dishwasher unloaded, all to... Sign in to see full entry.

back from the show

Well. We walked into a dark anteroom and people with flashlights directed us onward through a heavy curtain and into a very large space we could hardly make out in the dark. Then things began to happen... We caught the last 10 minutes of the 35 minute program, then sat through the whole thing twice more! There are two huge rooms with high walls and amazing mirror installations. One is a forest of upright rectangular shapes, then there is an arch of many different angles. In the second room, one... Immersion Day

Today we--Charlie and my elder sister, Julie--are going to meet up in Denver to attend the Immersive Van Gogh exhibit. I hope it is all it's been cracked up to be! I appreciate Van Gogh, know a little about the man and his life. Did you know he never actually sold any of his paintings? I guess he was too avant-garde for his times. Now he is the world's most popular artist. If you're a DOCTOR WHO fan, you might have seen the episode in which the Doctor brings Vincent to modern times to a big... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting into character

It's been years! Charlie is LARPing again this weekend. He met some folks at WhimsyCon who run a Live Action Role Play game about 30 miles from here, and got excited about it again. He is there this time not to play his own character, but to serve the plot team as whatever NPCs they need him to be. Non-Player Character: in a video game, this is the person with the gold ring overhead, with the same patter when speaking to any actual player who encounters them. In LARP, it is a little more... Inspired by the view outside my window

Against the backdrop of lowering clouds and not-so-distant rain, tossed about by chilly moving airs off the coming storm, leaves are bright green still and limned with golden light from the sun not yet obscured... The storm and winter, they will come across the landscape relentless as time itself: Today, this hour, enjoy the gift of autumn. Sign in to see full entry.

Starting Wednesday early...

Up at 5, this morning, after going to bed around 10 last night. That's a good enough night's sleep, though there is likely to be an urge to go back to bed around 8 or 9 this morning. The sky was that lovely clear bright blue that comes before the sun bleaches it out to that soft creamy rose-petal shade, and before the morning Golden Hour. The temps dropped into the 30s overnight, and looking at the forecast for the rest of the month, it looks like this is going to be the norm for the next couple... Sign in to see full entry.

Creative Impulses

The other day at JoAnn's I found some pretty yarns and began to think of Yule gifting, and this morning got out a 'G' crochet hook, and set to work... I started with thinking of something other than a hat for my 5-yr old grandkid, Elsa, as that family has already got a pretty good supply of hats, some of them off my hook, and even a couple off Our Pat's hook. I started to make a scarf, a single stitch, back and forth rows. After a few rows, I looked it as a whole, and saw a glitch where I'd... Sign in to see full entry.

It doesn't feel like nearly a week since I wrote here...

...but Blogit tells me, so it must be true! Several days in a row of not up for much, then more busy-ness as the cold comes rolling in. It was not quite but close to freezing last night, and so before I go to bed tonight, the tender plants will come indoors. But before there is space for them, the dining room table needs to be cleared of the many objects and project bits and pieces that have accumulated since last time the jungle covered the table. Some of those, because we finally replaced the... Sign in to see full entry.

Leaf-peeping and ancient trees

Thank you, everyone for your good wishes and birthday greetings! Charlie's on the mend, and Embers has been doing some sustained purring the past day or so, so that says she is feeling better, too. Today Charlie and I went driving up into the hills to look at the pretty autumn leaves. The timing was good for where we went. Most of the aspens turn lemony yellow to gold, and a few go to a peachy color. Pictures, of course were taken... Looking forward to reviewing them and posting them in the next... 75 degrees F and I'm at 69!

It's a lovely fall day, temps mid-70s, air clear! Good day for a birthday, it is! Charlie's antibiotics are working, he's feeling much better now. We and my grandlad Vale just got back from early dinner at BJ's Brewery where I had their weekend-only prime rib special. After finally getting the scale down to 170, and my blood sugar numbers below 200s, this meal broke nearly all the rules, but for the special day, isn't it supposed to? The slice of prime rib was very fatty, as is sometime the... Sign in to see full entry.
