Mission accomplished

I have intended doing this for quite a long time now, and this past week it finally got done: I have gone through computer files and flash drives and all, and printed out all the Middle-earth poems and bits of prose I've written over the years, and compiled them into a single loose-leaf notebook. The pages aren't numbered for a couple of reasons. First, they are not all in a single computer file to be paginated, and second, I can't remember how to paginate a document any more. So I don't... Friday!

The visas arrived this morning. They are pasted into our passports and look very nice... good for 10 years! That will make future trips easier and cheaper! The cost of two visas was a bit more than another seat on the airplane would have been. Charlie had a good phone interview with the Toronto job, and is waiting to hear back if they want to fly him up for a face-to-face. The guy said he would have to also check with their lawyers regarding hiring someone from the US. The house he spotted turns... Sign in to see full entry.

Progress Report

While so much of the US and Canada fights to stay warm enough, here in the Springs, temps will be in the balmy high 40s F today. Just sayin--I have a guest room... Charlie had the phone interview for that job on Monday and is feeling encouraged, waiting for the final decision. The employer said he'd next be talking to their lawyers about what would be required to bring him over the border to work in Toronto. If they don't hire him for this position, he said, they'd be keeping him on their... Sign in to see full entry.

A-musing

Our CC posted today regarding poetry and muses, and reminded me of a couple of poems I wrote a while back, of muses... And now I look at them together and realize, they are a single poem, really. Under stars and branches reaching... Branches reach for light of stars and solitary moons and wanderers across the sky Always I am here-- another tale unfolding, a flower held in both our hands unbudding to an unexpected bloom... The light of all these skies shines-- between our eyes... Never fear-- I... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday is white

The snow flurries about, from that wind-blown sideways stuff to the whimsical dancing on air before settling on surfaces. There is almost an inch on the back rail, exposed to the occasional gusts of windiness, so it's hard to say what the actual accumulation is. Temps are in the 20sF, up from an overnight of 10. I woke with a headache and gnawing hunger, not wanting to get up yet, but needing to deal with these things. First thing, made coffee and breakfast of the last potato, some wee chicken... Home day

Freezy with flurries today... the snow is falling sideways. Good day for staying home! I got the packet of visa materials sent off yesterday, and now only have to wait for the return of them with visas attached. Charlie is working on a project, kind of an audition piece for the Mysterious Package Company https://mysteriouspackage.com/ where he recently applied for a job that we saw advertised on Facebook. This company seems to be in California, but for some reason the job looks to be in Toronto.... Sign in to see full entry.

The morning after...

The wind is quieter in a fitful kind of way, and as I wake up, I see no new snow falling. It isn't deep on the porch rail, but it is everywhere, even blown onto the covered deck, and there are drifts. Wind chill makes it feel like 3F right now, and will get up to 14F according to Alexa. Actual temps will be spread through the 20s all day, 'she' 'says.' I might go out later, to take the package of visa info to the UPS store about 2 miles from here, down a busy road which will likely be clear... Sign in to see full entry.

They promised us a storm...

...and here it is! It's 11:30 pm, and I can hear the gusting wind. Looks foggy out until you realize it is wildly blowing snow filling the air! It isn't terribly cold yet, and isn't expected to go below 20F--which is cold enough! I am worried and sad for anyone out in it, 2- or 4-legged who have no place to get out of it. Alexa says tonight the wind chill will feel like -1F. I don't know how long ago it started, but the street is white and drifty, and I'm guessing there won't be driving much.... Watch This Space...

We have missed so many astronomical wonders this past year because of overcast skies--What a fine thing it is to have a sky brilliantly clear tonight, to observe the lunar eclipse from first shadow to totality, and now moving out of shadow. I've gotten a few good enough shots though my skills with this camera are not as great as the occasion demands, and it focuses when it wants to, not necessarily when I want it to! But for once, there will be a pretty good record of this event going up on... Sign in to see full entry.

home from the con

The convention,COSine, is over. Really over: they say there will not be another as all the creators and runners are retiring and no one has come forward yet willing to take on the massive amount of organizing and sheer work that goes into even a small fan convention like this. They kept it going 14 years, which isn't too bad. It was small and not well-attended, though the art show was rich with quality, true art. I brought home a few items of pottery, painting, and sculpture. Charlie saw two of... Sign in to see full entry.
