From Thanksgiving through Christmas, my grocery store stocks a certain brand of ham. Now, I am not a big ham lover. I never have loved ham. But this particular one is very tasty. It is sweet with a honey glaze and spicy with cloves, and it is never too salty. There were three left of these spiral cut hams, at $3.99/lb today. They won't be back again until Easter, then will make a brief appearance for a couple of weeks. Perhaps the one I got today will last that long--most of it is already in the... The first day of the rest of the holiday season...
Today started with sleeping late, then taking Charlie to work, and getting a call that my new glasses have been sitting there ready for me for some time, I drove out to pick them up. Nothing fancy: I hated the bifocals, hated the progressives... These are single vision for computer length reading, and narrow enough to look over for unassisted distance viewing. Liking them so far! Then, because I was already out in the world, I drove over to a used car lot and perused. I'm not in a big hurry, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas Day
...started early, and I feel the post-Christmas nap coming on. We had our big fancy meal last night at Red Lobster, and the leftovers made a fantastic shrimp/scallop/lobster salad for lunch today. Charlie used a sweet bourbon vanilla bread to make french toast for breakfast. Through the day, there have been snacks. Here it is 7pm, and not surprisingly, there is no hunger for dinner. 10:45 pm Now we're hungry... The snacks have finally worn off. So, steamed broccoli, and chicken simmering in... Eye-roll...
I really hate not seeing clearly with these dratted bifocals. Landlord's email clearly said "Sunday" and sure enough, he arrived at noon today, and has been fixing the loose socket. The fireplace now works and the wall across the room on the same circuit is now dead. That's the wall the trees are plugged into, and the lamp behind my chair, and the charge cord for this laptop. Poor Frank is down on the floor again with his bad hip--scheduled for replacement in February--trying to sort the wires.... Sign in to see full entry.

Last Saturday before The Day
This is the worst of all days to go shopping at malls or city centers. It is as crazy as Black Friday. That makes it a great day to be home. But we had to run out to the UPS store with two more boxes--which will not arrive before even New Years. What luck that there was one person finishing up as we got there, and it wasn't until after we went in with our boxes that about 6 more customers arrived. So we got back home by noon, when my landlord said he'd be around to replace the loose outlet that... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Winter Solstice 2018!
From this dawn, the days get longer again! The further north you live, the more you'll notice the difference. Here in Colorado the shift will be noticeable, though not as much as it was to my senses when I lived in the Seattle area. What a happy event that, when I woke just before 7 this morning, it was one of these skies: https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/U5Ki5Q Sign in to see full entry.

Suddenly it's nearly NOW!
Five days to Christmas Day! Today I got two boxes into the mail, and have another to prepare. Some restaurant gift cards have been acquired for local friends, because who doesn't like to eat free? I am once again conflicted over the box to the people who rarely acknowledge, even, let alone say thanks for gifts. I never know if they liked what I sent, or not, so I don't know what to choose for them, or whether to even try at all. Maybe again this year it should be donations to worthy causes made... hats, hats, hats...!
So, here are the new hats... Gnome toppers, Tree Hats...? This is what comes of going to a smaller hook with a thick, chenille yarn. Now I have to go out and get some tiny decorations to make the green one a properly decorated tree, and perhaps googly eyes to make the red one a Sesame Street style Martian. The purple one... Well, I could give it a brim and make it more wizardly. All these things are possible. https://flic.kr/p/2dDLWcP Sign in to see full entry.

SunnyTuesday
Another sunny morning in Colorado Springs...! Temps will be up in the mid-50s today, which seemed really cold a few months ago, but is balmy now after several days below freezing, one even in single digits. Did you hear the prediction of the Farmer's Almanac that this would be a colder and snowier winter than usual? Did you hear that Old Farmer's Almanac predicts the opposite? So far in the Springs, it looks like both are right. Embers has just left my lap in favor of the sunny warm spot by the... Sign in to see full entry.
