Sitting here with the front door locked... This morning there was a breaking news flash on Facebook: a man is on the run from police, he is considered armed and dangerous, and within range of, though probably not actually in this neighborhood. So I'm not actually alarmed, just taking the sensible precaution. Meanwhile, this is probably our last nice day for a while. By 'nice' I mean snow is not likely until tonight, and high temps above 40. Next week will be cooler, possibly snowier. Anyway, it... Sign in to see full entry.

Liking the changes
For the first time in years, the living room has an open floor, and I can really enjoy the oriental carpet that once lived under the dining table in my parents' house. I can sit in The Chair and look at the parakeets, and see them looking at me, too. I can watch the faux fireplace, and read the clock above it. Welcome to my living room! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/7g0cZT Sign in to see full entry.

Making room for Christmas
The sunlight's gone for now, too early... The air is chill but I still like it better than too warm, so the door to the deck is open behind my chair. Ah, yes... the chair is now in front of the door which will be closed, mostly, through the winter, and the deck will be accessible only through my bedroom. The tv has shifted across the room with all its wires and boxes and complications, and now though I have it all plugged in, it won't go. I expect Charlie will figure it out when he comes over to... Days after...
Another bright and chilly morning is dawning... Plans for the day are highly flexible, the only sure thing is that my old chum from high school will be heading back up into the hills soon after breakfast. Weather word is that there will be snow and wind in the highlands today, so she will be going the most direct way instead of winding down through pine forest and winding roads. She lives in a little town called Bailey, if you want to look it up on a map. It's just west of Denver and the... Sign in to see full entry.

The Feast of Harvest and Thanksgiving
...has arrived! So has my friend, from her high mountain home. She has not yet emerged from the downstairs bedroom though I have turned on the heat, which is rather loud in that room as it huffs and chuffs through the vents, and I have strutted about overhead making breakfast, where the carpetting absorbs the footfalls, but not the unavoidable clatter of pans and such. I've made a much bigger pot of coffee than usual, and twice as much oatmeal. The morning is bright and shining, temps outside... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting ready...
Our Thanksgiving is on Thursday, and I have a friend coming for it. She will be here tomorrow sometime, so we can start on the cooking ahead of time. There are only 3 or 4 of us for the feasting event, so it is variety of foods to prepare rather than vast quantities. Of course, I have to bring the house to some sort of orderliness before having any company. With my lower back troubles, I only get so much done before sitting down again and giving it a rest. Tasks get done one by one... Today I... Sign in to see full entry.

Slickery!
It is freezing out, and drizzling, and the less-used roads are sheeted with ice. Charlie and I had no problem going out for dinner--a friend's birthday celebration--but coming home suddenly new tires were not enough. I thought to slow by gearing down rather than using brakes. Err... No. Not a good choice. Charlie was impressed: he's never been in a car doing a 180 on ice before... One of those events where until you come to a stop you don't know what you are going to hit or not. We missed the... Sign in to see full entry.

New phones, old phones
For the past couple of months, my phone has been turning itself off randomly, which can be a problem if I'm expecting calls. So yesterday I bought a new one. Not a fancy one, not a 'smart' one, just a simple flip phone. It took some 15 or 20 minutes for the guy at the store to transfer over the phone numbers, bit it finally got done and still faster than if I'd had to do it by hand, and contact people for their numbers I don't have memorized. Remember the days when we memorized the important... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday, Tuesday...
Feeling very symmetrical this morning: Yesterday was doctor day, and I came away with a flu shot in one arm, a pneumonia vaccine in the other. Also, word that my triglycerides are once again off the charts in the wrong direction, so a new medication in the hopes (and science) of avoiding pancreatitis. For some reason last night, sleeping was not working well in my new bed, and so I decided to find out just how comfy the old one now in the guest room really is. Embers seemed to like the shift.... Snowfall and the Saga of the Bed
I woke this morning near dawn, and the sky was clear on this day of promised snow. Having gone to bed nearer to 3 than 2, I went back to sleep. Waking again at 8, I looked out... and there it is! Big flakes falling straight down out of the sky, already an inch deep over the cars and railings, though the street looks to be only wet except at the edges. And like our Adnohr, I smiled... The first snows of the season are always so pleasing, especially with new tires on the truck, with nothing on the... Sign in to see full entry.
