Day is done...

Well, we got 'er done! The drive up to Denver was not too bad other than having to stop a couple of times to clear the windshield of road-grime. This is a process involving stopping in a safe place, Charlie getting out to gather snow and tossing it onto the glass. When the defrost has been running, the snow melts, and the wipers do their work. This is repeated until the glass is again clean enough for driving. It's necessary because the water in the spritzer reservoir is frozen in this... Sign in to see full entry.

Adnohr's Delight

The snow started with a few little flakes intent on falling, none of this dancing in the air business. And now there are 5 inches or so on the porch railing. Most of it fell before I went out last night for a play across town. Knowing how crazily people drive in any conditions on the highway, I stayed on city streets which are maybe snowier, but everyone is going a lot slower, some even cautiously. I considered the wisdom of calling off the excursion all the way, until there I was, and even sort... Sign in to see full entry.

Woolly Worlds at WhimsyCon

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/9nB633 Here are the current finished Woolly Worlds and their display at WhimsyCon. With intense snow expected in Denver today, we are not going up to the event until tomorrow. The drive down to the Springs last night was in icy drizzle a good part of the way, and that was a bit of a white-knuckle drive at times. A friend of ours, Erin Card, is the artist guest of honor at the con. She is an amazing costumer, a pro seamstress and a cos-player--which is to... Sign in to see full entry.

Fog and frost

The past couple of mornings have been foggy frost days: fog in the air, and hoarfrost on all things in it. The trees--every branch etched in frost; the grass, the stones, the cars... Had to clear the windshield of it yesterday at 6am before driving a friend to the Colorado Springs airport though there was no precipitation over night. Rows of trees near the airport, like the tree-hedges of New Zealand, towered up all white against the sky of pinkish wisps before the sun rose. When peeked up over... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday recovery day

Sitting here at home, for a moment cat-free, and feeling kinda crummy with the cold I brought back. That's what comes of hanging out with a toddler! When the sore throat started on Thursday, I was pretty sure that I'd be traveling with the worst of early-days illness, but yesterday wasn't so bad. Overnight I spent a while stuffy and runny which was not conducive to sleeping, but it passed and I slept with Embers tucked behind my knees until around 8 am. There was a need to go out grocery... heading home

I am sitting in a coffee shop next door to where Elsa goes for her Saturday music class. Then we'll go for lunch, and then to the airport where I will be in plenty of time for the 3:40 flight. It is better to get there well ahead of time than too close to time. I get anxious about missing a flight though it really isn't a big problem as they'll slip you onto the next one going anyway. There is sunshine this morning, with snow forecast for tomorrow and Monday, possibly a lot of snow. That would... Sign in to see full entry.

Wednesday already!

Still grey and damp in the Northwest... Chilly here may be the same temps as in Colorado, but the much greater humidity than that desert over the Rockies makes the chill seem much chillier. The mountains gained snow overnight, and there was a thought this area is high enough to see a couple of inches, but it is only wet out there. It's a preschool day for Elsa. She learns more Mandarin there. When she goes to kindergarten and school, it may be French she will be exposed to. Mommy is taking full... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday in the Northwest

Seattle is bustling and even on a rainy winter day, gleams with glass and chrome. We drove up to Edmonds today for brunch, and I had a 'louie' salad with shrimp and dungeness crab. Saturday, arriving around noon, my daughter took me to a Lebanese place for lunch. It was delicious! Then yesterday's dinner was at an exceptional Taiwanese dumpling restaurant. I love how my kids are food-adventurous and know where the good eating is to be found! Kids of all ages are everywhere. Not just today being... Sign in to see full entry.

Seattle Sunday

The sunshine comes and goes, and mostly the Seattle area is typically winter grey and damp. The a-typical snowfall is mostly gone by now after several days of above-freezing, and gentle rains. Like everywhere else, it is more and more difficult to predict the weather. There are two dogs in this household, a small-in-size but not in spirit Lancashire healer who can rightly be called elderly, nearly 14 years old, and a tall, lanky cross around 10 years old between, perhaps, german shepherd and...
