Charlie just sold one of his bears. It is most interesting to see who they appeal to, who relates to them. This one, Nellie, went to an older woman who has children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, but I think this was a personal thing for her. She mentioned growing up in Germany in the Cold War... "One day the Wall was not there, the next day it was." She spoke of her father who had donated his collection of teddybears to an orphanage on his way to war. A small one he carried with him... Venus is brilliant in the sky at 6am, Orion was in the same location last night when I went to bed around 10--two of my favorites in the sky. When I was little, my bed was by the window and I could see Orion all winter every clear night, and we became friends, or at least familiars. I rarely saw Venus in those days, but later when I was in my teens, I would go out some mornings to the top of the road where we lived then, to watch for a comet--Ikeia-Seki, that I never saw, but the dawns were... Saturday starting slow
Staying up on purpose to go out in the cold and watch for the Geminid meteors proved that I can stay up past bedtime, and also that such a sacrifice on my part will not bring on a cloudless sky. Orion was bright enough overhead for a while when I first looked out just after midnight, but when I went out again around 2, there was just a blank dark grey overhead. I slept in this morning as long as I could, got around 3 hours of sleep with dreamings of the sort that I'm glad to wake from, and find... Sign in to see full entry.

Things are looking better...
Internet is back! Yay! Only 36 hours down... and they are giving us a week's credit on the bill, for inconvenience. Since I was here last, there are a few new photos to share of our Yule decor. I left the decoration to Charlie the other evening, and went to bed... And here are the results. https://flic.kr/p/2dxHyRp (start here, click leftwards) To really enjoy the individuality of each tree, I recommend enlarging the farthest left photo. Still, it isn't done yet... On Christmas Eve we will plug... Sign in to see full entry.

Away from home keyboard
I am sitting here Out In Public because the wifi at home is down. Way down. They promise it will be fixed in 12-24 hours. They better be issuing credits on the bill. In bigger news, Charlie is in the news! The free local weekly, The Independant, interviewed him and his Wasteland Bears last week, and today there is not only the article within, but he is also featured on the front page! I am going now to see how many copies I can snag... Sign in to see full entry.

Tuesday could have started better.
It wasn't bad at first, waking from a dream that featured a Mondrian kinetic sculpture, and waking to a day already in the mid-40s F, and promising near 60 later on. My blood sugar wasn't too bad today, either, after a way high day yesterday--which is always upsetting because I don't know exactly why the readings are higher than usual, even much higher. I got my potatoes in the oven this morning, before they went actually green... Then I opened the box that came for Charlie, a Christmas present... Sign in to see full entry.

Counting down the days...
Yesterday we started decorating the Yule scene, with some landscaping, snow and trees, a couple of cottages and a Yule Tomten. I have taken a few shots, but they are not very good, so I will be working on that, finding better lights and angles. Through the next week there will be ornaments added, and then, finally, the lights. We are saving the lighting for last. The 'keets don't seem sure what to make of this forest that has suddenly sprouted beside them. Embers tried bedding down on the 'snow'... Sign in to see full entry.

Out on the town
Another cold day, shiny with a thin layer of snow on the ground. This afternoon, I had a vision check-up, with the dilated eyes stuff and all. Nothing fancy in the new glasses, just single-vision for computer/arm's length stuff. No more bifocals, no more progressives. And I go back in January for a peripheral vision test, as it seems there is maybe glaucoma happening. Daily eye-drops, if it's an actual thing, that won't bring back lost vision but will halt further deterioration, so a nuisance... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, here it is Monday again...
And it's the first business day of December. Time to shuffle funds and pay my rent... the electrocity bill... It is white outside, about an inch of snow flurried onto the world overnight, and it is cold, right about freezing right now. Further flurries are expected through the day. Charlie goes in for work at noon instead of 10am so he can be there until 6pm when the gal in the office goes home. There have been some tricksey robberies at some facilities: the manager goes out after dark with a... Sign in to see full entry.
