One Step Away From Homeless...

A few days ago, I was watching a program featuring a woman who works with people who are on the verge of being homeless. She deals mostly with families with children because she was once homeless along with her nine children. She was able to place her children in homes with family members but she ended up staying in various homeless shelters. The basic topic of the show was not about people who were already homeless but about people who were on the verge of being homeless. Since, I've been... Sign in to see full entry.

Creative block?

Ever have those days when your mind is full of things but you are too tired to actually do the work? The last few days I've felt like I've been in sort of a fog. Part of it's been stress because of financial issues from being out of work and some of it is the emotional strain of having to depend on my family. I tend to be a very independent person. Always have been and being dependent on anyone is a real challenge for me. Even as a kid, I was always fiercely independent. Partly out of necessity... Sign in to see full entry.

Adopt a kid for Christmas

My last post about the teens whose parents are serving our country overseas got me thinking about something. I'm not sure if you guys are aware that there are millions of letters to Santa that sit at the post office each year. Many of the kids who write those letters live in poor neighborhoods and their parents cannot afford to really give them a decent Christmas (or Hannakah -Sp?). A law firm that I used to work for would go down to the post office and collect a number of letters from zip codes... Sign in to see full entry.

Remembering our troops and...

their children who are having to grow up very quickly. I watched an episode of Nightline a few days ago featuring two teenagers whose fathers are overseas. I was so impressed by both of those kids because not only had they chosen not to feel sorry for themselves and become victims of their situation, they are actually excelling in their academic work, their social lives and their home lives. The young man that they interviewed is 17 and is helping to raise his younger sister. He's also an "A"... Sign in to see full entry.

Corbin's Christmas Poem

For anyone who hasn't read Corbin's Christmas poem, you need to check it out. It is so beautiful and has such a wonderful message. I want to write more about a related subject but I'll wait until tomorrow. Sign in to see full entry.

Don't you love spam selling Viagra?

I just love getting emails about erectile dysfunction and penis enlargement. NOT!!! Unfortunately, there's no way to email them back and inform them that I don't have a penis or need Viagra. I am laughing as I write this. They are hysterical! However, what really annoys me is that they don't care who they send these emails to. I have a prayer request email on my web site, which is predominantly directed toward children and they use their catch-all email grabbers and send me these disgusting... Sign in to see full entry.

Is the Bible really the Word of God?

I am truly amazed by the number of people who call themselves Christians but don't really believe that the Bible is God's Word. They believe the part that says that Jesus was born and that He died on the cross for their sins and was resurrected so they will have eternal life. Admittedly, that is the most important thing but, for the most part, they don't really believe the rest of the Bible is accurate. Personally, I find that to be rather stupid. Let me explain why. If the Bible isn't accurate... Sign in to see full entry.

How to get a green card?

One of my readers told someone that I could tell them how to get a green card here in the U.S. While I am not an expert on this, if anyone needs that information, I can help a little. First of all, you need to contact an immigration attorney that either handles corporate sponsorships or individual immigration issues. I can't tell you anyone specifically myself but I can refer you to a law firm I used to work for that does some immigration work for crisis situations (people who are being tortured... Controversy...

Why do we like it so much? I've noticed that when I write something nice and sweet or fun or that doesn't really stir strong feelings for or against that few people read it. But when I write about something that people feel strongly about, lots of people seem to be interested in it. Why do we enjoy controversy so much? Maybe because it stirs our passions and it makes us feel more alive and it makes our blood boil. It's funny, but unless I'm writing articles, most of what I write are stories and... Go, Cowboys!!!

It's football time and the Cowboys are playing. Of course, the Bucs are ahead for the moment but my Cowboys are comeback pros and I'm praying for a win. The way I see it is that every time Dallas has started out winning when I've seen them play, they lose in the end. So, this time since they are starting out behind, I'm expecting a turnaround. I'm praying for an interception and a Dallas touchdown. I'd like to see this game be somewhat close but still with the Cowboys on top. Dallas has worked... Sign in to see full entry.

Thanksgiving Memories and Traditions

We all have family traditions for holidays in some way, shape or form and I thought I'd share some of mine. I hope I don't bore anyone but I thought it would be nice to share different traditions we all have so feel free to share yours in the comment section. When I was growing up, Thanksgiving was steeped in almost as much tradition as Christmas. We did most of what other families did by getting up to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Mom always had coffee cake or cinnamon rolls for... Sign in to see full entry.

A little good news...

for those of us on the conservative front. Wal-Mart has decided not to make contributions to controversial organizations anymore. They plan to remain neutral in what they call "cultural battles." Of course, I'm sure that the boycott and a significant drop in business and income has helped to persuade them, but nevertheless, they have decided to remain neutral. I'm sure that part of that decision was made due to the oncoming Christmas season. Since that is the biggest retail season of the year, I... Sign in to see full entry.

From the horse's mouth...

So to speak. I asked my friend who is a legal immigrant about the requirements to come in this country legally and being able to speak English is one of the requirements so all of you who say otherwise are wrong and you need to check the laws. That means that I'm right and most of my neighborhood are illegals. Another point I'd like to make again is that I don't mind people coming into this country from other countries as long as they obey the law. Blanche said that we should "share the wealth."... What are you thankful for?

Okay, let's put the debating aside for a while and remember what this week is all about - being thankful. I know that in spite of a number of challenges in my life, I have a lot to be grateful for, such as a roof over my head and food to eat and my kitty cats. And, I'm grateful for my family, even if they are 1500 miles away. And, for my friends. And, I'm grateful for my computers and all of the talents God has blessed me with. And, I'm thankful for Blog It. Most of all, I'm grateful for the... Sign in to see full entry.

I'm Human. What's your excuse?

I'm very willing to admit that I don't know everything by a long shot and that I've made plenty of mistakes including how I've presented my perspective in this blog. However, I stand by the point that the illegal immigration situation in this country is not about race. It is about breaking the law. Of course, we should have compassion on people and understand their plight but that doesn't mean you allow them to break the law without reprisal. And, yes, if people who are here in this country... Some of you don't read well!

I didn't say anything about citizenship. You did. And, if you will check out the law, I believe it is a requirement for a naturalized citizen. But the point is that I never said I was sure about that anyway. I said I needed to ask someone. And, the point is still not about race! It's about breaking the law! You guys continually are trying to make this a race issue and race has nothing to do with it! I have nothing against the Latino people. I like many of them. I have a problem with people who... How I know they are illegal...

Blanche questioned how I know that most of my neighborhood is here illegally. Well, if I remember the laws from my Business Law classes, in order to come into this country and stay here legally, you have to speak English. Now, I'm not 100% sure of that so I will ask a friend of mine who is from El Salvador and he and his wife came here legally. By the way, he's just as infuriated over the illegals situation as I am and is just as offended that they are being allowed to stay here with virtually... Sign in to see full entry.

How many of you really believe the news media?

Please tell me that you aren't so naive that you actually believe that what they report these days is news. What Walter Cronkite reported was news. What the supposed media journalists report today is biased hype. They don't care anything about reporting the truth. Even the local media is biased in what it reports. Maybe I've seen too much and lived in Los Angeles too long and I'm a cynic but I can guarantee you that the media doesn't tell you the truth. My sister has a Public Relations company... Love Means Never Having to Say You're Sorry...

Yeah, right? How many people out there know that that's one of the stupidest lines in movie history? How dumb can you be? And, it had to be a man who wrote it because women aren't that stupid! Sorry, gentlemen, but really don't you know that it's the dumbest line in relationship history? If you love someone, really love them, then saying you're sorry is the best thing you can do. Everybody hurts the people they love. It's a lot harder to hurt someone you don't know because you don't really care... Sign in to see full entry.

Apology to Blanche...

First of all, I never intended to question that you are a Christian but the Bible does say that out of the heart the mouth speaks and since much of what you said was contrary to the Word of God, that's what I questioned. Secondly, I'm not making assumptions about illegals getting welfare and government assistance. They don't do it through their own birth certificates, they do it through their children. If a child is born in the U.S., they are automatically considered a U.S. citizen and their... Sign in to see full entry.
