On this American Thanksgiving Day, I am watching a tape-delayed broadcast of WGN's noon news. One of their lead stories was of a house fire - and the reporter made a point of mentioning that the smoke detector did not work. The reporter unintentionally proved my point. Here in Chicagoland, those of you who disable your smoke alarms to prevent nuisance alarms would be vilified by implication. In this article, found on AOL, we find out about a panda baby boom. Apparently, it's a pain in the posterior to mate giant pandas in captivity, because they have been poorly socialized in zoos. You see, pandas - like other animals - find out about appropriate sexual behavior by watching Mom and Dad mate, and there haven't been enough pandas in captivity to serve as role models of how pandas should treat each other when mating time rolls around each year.
