Hong Kong

I didn't learn Mandarin or Cantonese, though I sampled plenty of those types of foods. And I hardly saw the sun during the whole 5 12 days I was in Hong Kong. But that didn't stop me and my friends from having a great time there, despite the clinging jet-lag and bio-rhythm disfunction. Hong Kong is... Sign in to see full entry.

Hong Kong Bound

Heading to Hong Kong tomorrow for just one week. It's a straight 15 hour flight over the North Pole; and I guess I should treat the trip like part of the vacation, but I'm not a great plane traveler. No problem. I'll watch 100 movies, read a bit, take Tylenol PM and will be there in no time, right?... Sign in to see full entry.

Ben's HS Graduation

There are many milestones in the life of a child; the first tooth, the first step, the first word (not necessarily in that order), and the first major graduation. Ben graduated Northwood School this past Saturday with high honors as "almost valedictorian" - he came in second in his class by a... Sign in to see full entry.

ZenMom and Gapcohen

When I come across a blog post that I find objectionable, I make a comment to that effect. If the comment is rebutted and continues to be, I might write a cathartic blog of my own mentioning that I'm pulling out of a draining and unwinable emotional seesaw. Despite some extreme comments on some of... Sign in to see full entry.

A Song For Myla Goldberg

Myla came over to my house on Tues. night. She's author of the bestseller, Bee Season, a coming-of-age-in-dysfunctional-family story that centers around a 9 year old named Eliza. Myla doesn't look much older than that - with a rather nerdy air, extreme pigeon-toes that make her stride ungainly,... Sign in to see full entry.

Pete Seeger's 90th

Yesterday, I braved Metro-North, Swine Flu be damned, to get to NYC for Pete's 90th Bash at Madison Square Garden. When tickets went on sale a month or so ago, I was lucky to get one - they sold out in one day. My friend and I sat high above left stage - in the last permanent row. But, owing to the... Random Thoughts

I've lost interest in eating as a result of Pine Nut Taste Disturbance (see prior blog), so I'll turn my attention to other random things. I was listening to the radio on my way home from dropping Jacob off at the bus stop. One of my very FAVORITE stations is 107.1, The Peak; which digs deep into... Sign in to see full entry.

Pine Nut Watch

I love Pine (pignoli) Nuts. I love them roasted and smashed into pesto sauce. I love eating them so much that when I found out that they were permitted on the Flat Belly Diet as a MUFA I jumped for joy. I bought a container of what I thought were home-grown "natural" pine nuts and began to eat them.... Sign in to see full entry.

Diet Update

I just read in this week's New York Magazine that the 99 cent Trader Joes pasta won the expert's taste test over others costing $8.00 and more. Why am I so invested in these food reviews? This is what happens to me when I can't eat. Instead of eating voraciously, I eat vicariously through the words... Sign in to see full entry.

Fat Belly Diet

Yesterday, I spent the eating hours in New York City. From Breakfast until way past dinner, I ordered from menus and in one case, ate what the waiter brought me. Not the best conditions for this strict and strange diet. I took an early train to Grand Central Station - something I've done a thousand... Sign in to see full entry.
