There is a story-- Many years ago, 1970 or thereabouts, my father, Dr Kenneth Franklin, who was an astronomer, played with an idea: that if we meant to colonize the Moon--this was during the Apollo program--we would need to have a different way to determine time there: the clocks and systems of the Earth would be unsuitable for the Moon.
