Because they are us. To paraphrase Emanuelle: We respect you greatly: Many of us have been human and know full well the courage it takes. Why does anyone become a teacher? Why does someone want to spend their entire lives in school, first as a student, then teaching and hanging out with kids? We all know how cranky and obstreporous and resistant to learning some kids can be... Especially those at the junior high/middle school level, which is about where humanity is, I'm thinkin'...
