Things beginning to shape up

After just three days this week of working on the large piles of rubble, mostly downed trees, at our farm we have made great headway. Our new help is really great. We don’t like to use any type of mechanical equipment if possible, but we had to make an exception to this rule after this disaster. So... Sign in to see full entry.

Sometimes I could shoot (or beat) her!!

My wife and I have custody of our niece, her brother’s daughter. Brother-in-law is a drug addict and his ex-wife just does not want the kid. So we have her. To say the least she came to us with a large set of problems. Sometimes she really gets sideways. Other times she does bad things, but she’s... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday was not that bad

We kicked it in high gear yesterday at work. That was a good feeling in a lot of ways. I like to work. I don’t mind working hard. And yesterday was the day we jumped back into the heavy stuff around the farm. Everyone was ready though and it was a good day. We had to move some big parts of several... Sign in to see full entry.

It’s Plough Monday; time to really get back to work

Today is Plough Monday. I wrote a post several days ago about this day. It is the day that the men traditionally went back to work after their holiday. Even though we worked last week it was at a reduced level. Today the big work will begin in earnest. We have our new workers with a week under their... Sign in to see full entry.

It was a battle royal!!

I received a nice bird feeder for Christmas. I put it up near my office window where I spend a lot of time. I have another feeder that sits outside our bedroom window. I had not paid too much attention to the feeders until this morning. I saw a big battle over supremacy of the feeder between the... Sign in to see full entry.

I feel like Johnny Appleseed (well, sort of)

I have been planting trees and tree seeds all along the areas where my dogs and I walk in our little portion of the world. I think that is just about the way John Chapman, or Johnny Appleseed, did it a long time ago. I think trees are one of our most important natural resources. They take in carbon... End of first week of year

Today will end the first work week of the year. We have had a great week so far on our small farm. I love to get started on new things and we have had to plenty of that here. One of my favorite things to do around our place is to work with our compost piles. I know that is not very romantic, but it... Sign in to see full entry.

Took time to write; new help doing great

Yesterday was a pretty good day for me. I took time to write some things in several different writing genres. At our small farm, our new help had another great day. Days like that really make me happy. I wrote in my journal. I had time to add to my blogs here. I even wrote a bit of poetry. My main... Sign in to see full entry.

This was more fun than I thought

Yesterday was our first day with our new help at our farm. We had decided we needed this for several reasons. The main reason was after the hurricanes we just need help cleaning up. We also needed to expand a bit and this was the best way for us to do it. We ran out of family members! The new help... Sign in to see full entry.

Up early to get a good start

It’s a wonderful Tuesday morning and I am up early to get a good start on my day. We still have until next Monday before we really kick it in high gear. This day we have some new workers getting started with us. So I will do my part in helping them out and showing them what to do. That will be so... Sign in to see full entry.
