Not quite back at full force

Even though we have many chores to do around our small farm, we are not quite back at full force on the work details. We will not do that until next Monday, January 9, which is Plough Monday. We will have one more week of just doing the bare minimum and then we will kick it into high gear. Some of... Sign in to see full entry.

A New Year begins

A New Year has begun for us down on the bayou. The last year was one of turmoil. We got hit by two hurricanes, with one being the "big" one. We are fine though. And that is the most imporant thing. I am happy that my immediate family and the extended family are all OK. Did we incur some losses? Yes,... Sign in to see full entry.

That was some game: LSU 40 Miami 3

I am an LSU fan and attended the school. Even though I don’t watch much TV anymore I tuned in last night to catch the Peach Bowl game between LSU and Miami. Miami wasted the trip. LSU completely whitewashed the Hurricanes. This was probably as good as LSU was capable of playing, but the team did a... Sign in to see full entry.

This don’t happen often

I am sick. This does not happen very often. I have a sore throat and just feel bad in general. I can’t remember the last time I was sick like this. I am not probably feeling that bad, but when you don’t hardly ever get sick any small illness is magnified. I would suspect with all the visitors we had... Sign in to see full entry.

She was just so cute

Last night I went to meet some friends at a local nightspot. A wife of one of my best friends is quitting work to stay home and be a housewife, which has to be the most important profession in the world. When I heard that I knew I had to go. While at the place I spied a nice, cute young lady. We... Sign in to see full entry.

This might be my big break

I have been in contact with a local magazine back home in Texas to possibly write some articles for them. I have never written much along those lines, but I am going to give it a shot. I have sent writing samples and such to the editor of the publication and she obviously likes what she sees. So... Sign in to see full entry.

A few modern luxuries

Yes, I have gotten back to some very basic living stuff over the past 8 months or so. But I do still have a few modern luxuries that I am not going to give up. I made a pact with myself to live a simpler life, not a life of misery. Of course, I kept the air conditioning. If I were going to try it... Sign in to see full entry.

Christmas is Over, but We Are Still on Holiday

It was a wonderful Christmas just as I had thought it would be. Our getting back to simpler things and times was a real hit. We all enjoyed exchanging gifts that were mostly made by hand. We were warmed by a fireplace and a wood burning stove. Our meal was cooked on that old stove. It was just a... Sign in to see full entry.

Only a few more days until Christmas

I am waiting for the big day with much anticipation. There will be much food. I want to open my gifts. Yes, I get like a kid during this time of year. Even though we have toned done the gift giving and all I am still looking forward to the ones I get. I can be happy with a $5 gift as well as a $500... Sign in to see full entry.

It’s nice to be taking it easy

Yesterday was a very nice day for all of us around the farm. We did a few minor chores and then we took it easy. I have not had many days such as this, but this one was very good. We did visit with friends and family for a good portion of the day. I spent a lot of the day yesterday writing. I have... Sign in to see full entry.
