Meet the new maths queen

I've no idea why but many years after leaving school and maths far behind, I am in danger of actually understanding and being good at this... or at least good at adult numeracy. I suppose the years of varied accounting and administrative jobs (and the children's homework!) taught me more than I... Sign in to see full entry.

Painting

I've just lost a lot of text that I wrote and I feel this entry may have lost some of its spontenaity but lets see. I spent most of yesterday cutting in colour around the ceilings, corners, door frames and skirting (baseboard) in what used to be my daughter's room, and as I went I dabbed some paint... In a muddle

I realise it is always an exercise in futility, but two days ago I spoke to my husband and told him there was water seeping down a cold water pipe and that I would need to call in a plumber and would he please put some money into the account. He was quite adamant he could not, and would not listen.... Sign in to see full entry.

Obama

I rarely venture into the world of politics, since there are so many better qualified than I to discuss these things. What prompted me to write now is the sense of optimism in the start of this new presidency, and not just because a man of colour is in the White House. All I will say about that is,... Better

I don't want another day like yesterday. It isn't like me to get so low that I can't movitate myself to do anything more strenuous than make some soup and mope at my laptop, not even knowing what to write. Or even whether I can be bothered. Church was nice this morning. I have long held the belief... Sign in to see full entry.

Inertia, or something very like it

Is it just me or is everyone a bit quieter than usual now that the upswing of the New Year has become a distant memory? I have a million things to do; I have no money and that has to be my immediate focus. The irritation of receiving a cheque in Australian dollars at my home address in the UK -- for... And so to bed

It's been a nice evening. The only thing missing was someone to share it with, after my guests left. The muddle in the kitchen can wait till tomorrow, but how much nicer it would be to scurry off up to bed and snuggle up with a loved one. Often, my husband would have been asleep by the time I... Oh what a beautiful day

I won't go all poetic and wax lyrical but it was such a lovely day today that I just had to get out of doors. Too nice to be inside and I have had a really productive day in the garden. I've even put up a trellis by the front door, to keep the Winter Jasmine tidy. It's already budding bright yellow,... Sign in to see full entry.

Stumbling at the first pillar

I am studying wisdom, with the help of a little workbook based on the book of Proverbs. My lovely friend Taps inspires; it is never too late for these important things. If the first of the seven pillars upon which wisdom is built is 'trust,' I have already stumbled. I have already been overwhelmed... Sign in to see full entry.

Not exactly getting the hang of this

I have just posted in the wrong blog and had to move to the right one, the next bit of the long chronicle of my life as a - what? - not quite trailing spouse, as it wasn't a job move that took us there (not at first anyway)... perhaps as a very perplexed woman who learned to normalise the abnormal,...
