On my news feed this morning was another of those sensational "true" stories of a guy who claims he died, spent a horrifying interval in hell, and was brought back to life. There were supplemental accounts of others - including a priest - who said the same thing. I cannot overstate my disbelief.... Sign in to see full entry.

FAIR PLAY
If there's anything most of us want, it's a sense of fairness in the world, that each of us will see a balancing out of circumstance: It's only fair that a kid who grows up in poverty will end up rich by virtue of hard work and persistence. A creep who harms a child will be caught and punished, and... Sign in to see full entry.

MUSIC FESTIVALS
Back in the 1960s there were huge outdoor music festivals in several areas of the country. Not exactly sure what state it was in, but Woodstock was a big one, with tv networks reporting on it, scenes of young folks (hippies?) dancing and partying and perhaps smoking a little pot. At that time Fang and I commuted to work, each of us in a different remodeled farmhouse on SIUE's Edwardsville... Sign in to see full entry.

WHAT IF...
I've been thinking this morning about nature's way, about how the animal world operates. It seems to me that most species - the four-leggeds - function in a much different way than we humans. Among wolves, coyotes and similar creatures, the female teaches her young the way of their pack and survival... Sign in to see full entry.

ABOUT FRED
The spring I was 15 our family went to the wedding of a cousin who lived near Olympia. The bride was the daughter of mom's cousin Kieth, someone she had been close to in her growing-up years. They were all strangers to me, but going to a wedding - just getting out of the house for a festive occasion... Sign in to see full entry.
