Those ads at times were the only thing to see besides all the lovely green. They can also be very entertaining.

I definitely remember the Burma Shave signs. That was before some of the InterStates.

Now that you mention it, that was common in the West as well, and in later years I noticed it all over the Midwest, too - ads for tobacco, tractors, etc.. No doubt there are still old barns with those ads still intact, waiting for the Barnwood Builders or other rehabbers...
