UPDATE

The contractor for the back yard project called back - my son had been the one to contact him, so he called Rich with a bid. Rich accepted the bid and asked him to put the job on his schedule, then called me - the bid was lower than expected, so that seems like a good omen. It looks like that corner... STUFF 'N THINGS

Yesterday a contractor came by to check out a job I want done in my back yard. It involves filling in an old fish pond and leveling out the site. His idea of how to get it done was very much like my own - he promised to get a bid back to me in a couple days. Soon the mosquitoes will have to find... Sign in to see full entry.

DISNEY'S WORLD

Disneyland came along after my kids were pretty much grown, so we never made a summer pilgrimage there or to Disney World in Florida. Plus, which a few days at Disney would have made a horrible dent in the family budget. I always understood this entertainment venue was actually a business empire.... Sign in to see full entry.

IN SEARCH OF...

After spending half an hour revising 5 paragraphs I'd posted here earlier, I gave up and deleted them. Too sour, too bitter, too political - and you know how that is. So I tried an impromptu rhyming thing. THE POETRY SHELF Why add to the troubles shared by all? As Paul Simon said in his song, "These... Sign in to see full entry.

WHAT THE WEATHER MAN SAID...

Recently there have been some tremendous forest fires in NW Washington, Idaho and the Canadian provinces just north of there - raging out of control at times due to an extended drought. That part of the continent is usually rainy and cloudy 5 days out of 7 as I remember it, overcast and drizzly with... Sign in to see full entry.

TODAY'S SCREEN SAVER

This morning we're on a narrow Johnboat, paddling slowly through the cypress swamp. The sun is shining, a few puffy clouds float up ahead and blue sky is reflected on the calm water. But we know, because we've been down this stream before, there are gators submerged and waiting for one misstep, one... Sign in to see full entry.

MOTHER'S DAY

Sunday morning, BTJ (Before Traffic Jams) headed to the store to pick up some veggies. It was early but Schnuck's was ready with Mom's Day flower arrangements boxes of candy, and sentimental knick-knacks. And there they were, the good dads, one or two kids in tow, shopping for surprises for their... Sign in to see full entry.

FAMOUS FIRSTS - MOM'S DAY VERSION

When that little blessing from heaven arrives, no first-time mother is really ready. There's no how-to manual, no inkling of what's going to happen and what to do about it. Nobody - even if your own mom tries to tell you - really lets you know that your nights of sleeping for hours at a stretch are... Sign in to see full entry.

Like Lucy, I've got some 'splaining to do...

My description in yesterday's post of an ignorant backwoods hunka hunka burnin' poo stemmed from my view of the Missouri senator who's picked up on the loser Trump's oppressive grandiosity and total disregard for truth, justice or logic. If I lived in Missouri I would vote for a snake before I'd... Sign in to see full entry.
