I tried house plants after I settled here, but this house isn't good for them. Not enough of the right kind of light coming through the windows. They wilt. They sigh and droop. They don't believe in Miracle Gro. It's fatal to put any plant here, pointless to remember to water them. They go to plant... Sign in to see full entry.

A starter scene -- write what happens next.
SOMETHING... “What is it?” he asked. “Nothing.” He knew it had to be something. He stared at her blonde head, bowed as in prayer under the light of the reading lamp. Her eyes were closed, the book open in her lap. There were tears streaming down her face, onto the page. “Why won’t you tell me?”... Sign in to see full entry.

October! Day 1
Dentist appointment this a.m. Oh, yeah, I've been looking forward to this all September. The hygienist and all her tools for chipping and sanding, the gritty residue of polish, the minty finish. It's a party for my mouth. It's also the first day of heating season. Off with the air conditioning, on... Sign in to see full entry.

From Aunt Paddie's "Aging and Laughing" collection
Thankful for small blessings I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes. I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take forty different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. I... Sign in to see full entry.

Creative Differences
Couple weeks ago I mentioned the Lucy Amanda stories to this woman I know. I said I was thinking of putting them out as a self-published little booklet. I planned to do "Lucy & Robert & The Bear," her story about the day a man came through my Grandma Lucy's little town with a performing bear. Early... Sign in to see full entry.
A silly verse won't make it worse, just a sip of a smile for today...
Argyle Socks He’s the Duke of Argyle and those socks make him smile all plaidie and squared off that way: he’ll never give in for they still make him grin. They were quite the style in his day. Now only the Duke wears the socks of his fame day and night, night and day. It’s a shame that the... Sign in to see full entry.

Happy Monday!
In the early '80s, when I was carrying three college classes, had two kids to raise on my own and a full time job, a strange woman came to work in my office. Let's call her "T." She was going for a degree in Public Administration on a disability scholarship. Her left hand was paralyzed from a stroke... Sign in to see full entry.

Porn for Women
From the Cambridge Women's Pornography Cooperative. The front cover is a photo of this cute guy, shirt properly buttoned, vacuuming. And it just gets better from there: darling, good looking young guys doing all the things women fantasize about. Absolutely leaves a girl with a smile on her face,... Sign in to see full entry.

The perfect birthday gift
Some time ago the world was changed: a baby girl was born! She grew up a joy to her mother, totally coachable and compliant, sweet and helpful to everyone. Her hair was always shiny, her smile bright, not a single cavity because of careful dental hygiene. She was smart with money, saved a little... Sign in to see full entry.

Good Cop? Bad Cop! This was on the news yesterday...
A hooker who advertised her services on Craig's List was emailed by a prospective client. They set up a date at a local bar. He shows up with his partner, both in police uniform, in an official police car, complete with a light bar, the town name, and (I imagine) the "To Protect and Serve" logo. She...
