Funny, when you brought him up, I too thought I should read Maupassant again, and more of him. I have a weakness for that whole period of the late 19th and early 20th century anyway, it's literature, its music and also its painters...A period that sometimes seemed to sense the coming disaster that brought about its end - WWI...
And I certainly wish you good luck with your story. Having read and enjoyed it, I can see no reason why they won't accept it...

With Poe's short story, "The Case of the Purloined Letter," he created the mystery. That's probably what you're thinking about.
