Which is what I told myself this a.m. For months now I've been thinking about what to do next. Does the term "horns of a dilemma" mean anything to anyone else. My Irish twins, Joe and Guy, are on the cusp of change. Joe's the one who just bought his daughter Amy a little car for her 16th Birthday,... Sign in to see full entry.

Dancing With the Storms
Channels 2, 4, 5, and 11 pre-empted regular programming last night to focus on the weather. Even the Weather Channel was following the line of thunderstorms and tornadoes as it moved like a big scythe blade through Missouri and Illinois and on toward Indiana and Ohio. There were warning sirens,... Sign in to see full entry.

Larry called...
I left a voicemail for him just after I finished reading the posts in Blogit yesterday a.m. He didn't answer his cell, which worried me a bit, considering there'd been record numbers of tornadoes and nearly two dozen deaths. Turns out my daughter was right: mother nature hates mobil homes. They... Sign in to see full entry.

The best-laid plans...
Larry and Pete left Salem, Oregon on Friday the 8th, took the connecting roads east toward Interstate 40. Last year when they took I-70 across the U.S. they ran into snow in the high Rockies in Colorado and they decided it would be faster and easier to take the southern route this year. But Ma... Grandma's Brag Book...
You've seen those photo albums that fit in a woman's purse, candid shots of the grandkids, someone holding a puppy or a bunny rabbit, maybe a kid in pajamas approaching the tree on Christmas morning. She (the grandma) lurks at the coffee shop, waiting for someone she knows to show up, or meets... Sign in to see full entry.

Boyhood heroes...
My brother-in-law tells this story nearly every Easter, and he swears it is true. Preacher Damian liked a bit of fire and brimstone, bringing up the drama and giving his parishoners something to think about all week. So on Palm Sunday he came up with the Easter story, the way Jesus was forced to... Sign in to see full entry.

About not making my point...
This is to clarify the point of yesterday's blog. All your comments expressed sympathy for Patrick, a long-time hoarder whose house got in such bad shape the family had to take extreme steps to save him from himself. Your comments criticized the family's response to his collapse. Clearly, I failed... Sign in to see full entry.

Patrick's Dilemma
I ran into Patrick at Coffee Heaven this morning, old friend from the library. Hadn’t seen him for awhile, just assumed he’d been around when I wasn’t there. He had a thing for our white chocolate macadamia-nut cookies and the French roast coffee we sold for the Keurig machine. He liked certain... Sign in to see full entry.
PC Separation of Church and State
Before you get your PC panties in a knot, let me say that I have admiration and respect for other religions in America which celebrate their own history and philosophy, with holidays different from the Christian tradition. But the big one here, the one our calendar holidays reflect, is Christianity.... Sign in to see full entry.

Word of the day: Futzy
As in, "futzy old lady." Prim use of la-te-dah manners and habits that went out of fashion 50 years ago, but looses the occasional discreet fart. She smiles and never talks about her scandalous past, is especially watchful of language around children. She bustles, prepares every detail in advance,... Sign in to see full entry.
