Begin with a barista, someone who knows her way around an espresso machine. Find a bakery source for biscotti and big oatmeal cookies. Add a brewed coffee station, hang mugs for regulars on the wall. Add a few mismatched tables and chairs salvaged from Goodwill and the Salvation Army. Maybe a few... Sign in to see full entry.

Who do you love?
Sometimes the one you love never existed. You caught a momentary glimpse into what makes him tick in some casual remark he dropped into the conversation. Maybe you were swept away with joy that someone else actually gets this. You're so overwhelmed with your own perception it never occurs to you... Sign in to see full entry.
Damn! Thanks for the update. Love you.
That was my daughter's reply to the email I sent yesterday. I had written her that her dad is back in the hospital. Mostly a precaution, I told her. Might just be dehydration. I didn't say but she knew it might also be another stroke. I emailed knowing she'd pick it up on her Iphone from the campus.... Sign in to see full entry.

Looking beyond, past the trees etched against the eastern skyline, the sky was that clear pale turquoise you sometimes see in shallow sea water... Sign in to see full entry.

One Eye on the Sparrow - conclusion
What is your name? he wondered. “Does it matter?” Crap. Another question. I think so. “Wrong.” Am I dead? “Of course not.” But it has stopped. “I know. It’s to let the surgeon work on a steady surface.” “I didn’t realize... “Doctor Goodwin tried to tell you. You did that thing you do, waved him off.... Sign in to see full entry.

Jean called.
You remember Jean: 85, retired psych nurse. Always pissed off about something. Three years ago she disregarded advice from the rest of her family and took in her nephew, Timmie. Timmie was doing okay at the time, sticking to his meds, signed up for a class or two at the local college. He was pushing... Sign in to see full entry.

Another Dick and Carol...
I wrote a short thing and published it here a few months back. It was titled "Cemetery Dogs" and it was about this widow (Carol) who went with a couple widow friends to visit their deceased husbands at the cemetery. Her dearly departed (Dick) had been a dog and a chaser, hadn't even been very... Sign in to see full entry.

When you don't know "jack" (from an email I got from Larry)
A congressman was seated next to a little girl on an airplane so he turned to her and said, "Do you want to talk? Flights go quicker if you strike up a conversation with your fellow passenger." The little girl, who had just started to read her book, replied to the total stranger, "What would you... Sign in to see full entry.
