Scrambled Eggs and Morning at the Center

Got there early. Brought my own coffee. Before I left the house I made my usual breakfast: fried potatoes, onions, peppers and scrambled eggs. This time added a slice of low(er) sodium Spam. I microwave about a cup of frozen Ore-Ida chopped potatoes while the onions & peppers (also frozen but home... Sign in to see full entry.

Two potential writing exercises for the women's retreat

The group, as I check out posts on their Facebook page, is kind of a Ya-Ya Sisterhood thing - inspirations shared, mutual support, finding things to laugh about or believe in. But mostly it's for a bit of fun - at least from what I've seen so far. So yesterday I heard they found a "forgotten" Dr.... Sign in to see full entry.

Whew! Turns out I made a mistake.

You know that women's group I mentioned a few days ago - the one that had my ex's second ex as a member? Turns out I got myself a bit fluffed up over nothing. There was a notice on FB about the meeting on the 20th - so I went through the member profiles, looking for hers. Not there. Then I noticed a... Sign in to see full entry.

On The Job

Some people are lucky enough to have careers, work for which they have passion, and the paycheck is just the cherry on top. But most of us just need a job, any old job to pay the bills, keep food on the table, cover the rent. Someone wrote "The world is so filled with a number of things, I'm sure we... A Teacher Explains Fairy Tales to Grownups

Thursday night The Center hosted a speaker: Ms. Sheila Ruth, retired professor of philosophy, editor of the textbook "Issues in Feminism" used in a class of the same name offered at SIUE in the '70s and '80s. I'd taken her class in '80, the year I was a full-time student majoring then in journalism,... Sign in to see full entry.

Funny thing happened on the way to...

At Write Your Own Story yesterday, Peg invited me to join a secret group. She told me the name of it, which I can't share with you, except partially: Wild Succulent Women of... and that's all I can say. Grandmothers, Free thinkers. Unitarians. Creative types. Well, this is the group for which she's... Sign in to see full entry.

Harlan's Back Deck Adventure

Harlan E. Pluribus Unum, Frog. Newly equipped with hopping legs. Small enough to sit comfortably on a thumbnail. Like human teenagers, he's got the urge to leave home. The pond was shrinking, there were too many others there, couldn't turn around but someone was in his business. The others sat... Sign in to see full entry.

Sharks?

The phone went crazy yesterday. Aftermath of the 3-day weekend, I guess. Jo Ann even said it felt like a full moon around the Center, what with Baleful Betty moaning and griping because the Memorial Hospital nurse was two minutes late arriving to give the free A1C Diabetes tests. The nurse was... Sign in to see full entry.

Something from "Nothing"

Today's little venture into patworld is about... thread. Yarn, to be exact. Wool. And paper - not for writing on, but as a craft medium. At the Goshen Market three or four weeks ago I came across the booth of a family from Highland. They raise sheep, do the shearing, etc. The woman sends the wool to... Sign in to see full entry.

Job Change: a Labor Day Fable

Once upon a time there was a queen who tired of the court, her entourage, and all the pomp and pageantry that went with her position. She'd served graciously and well for thirty years, had married her king when he was but a prince and only second in line for the throne. As a young woman she'd... Sign in to see full entry.
