About Margaret and Henry...

It's done. Sent to Page Publishing. Had a chat with "my personal agent" yesterday at the time he said he'd call. Seemed like a nice guy, professional. He's told Page's story so often my questions were answered quickly in a sincere tone of voice. I asked how the company makes money - off the book... Sign in to see full entry.

Chapter 16: Final Exam Part 1

"chance encounter" A few weeks after settling in on Seven Prime, Margaret found herself one pleasant afternoon on a street that reminded her of San Diego in the 1930s. A heavenly scent beckoned her into a quaint little coffee shop. Henry Lagroix sat at a table inside. Somehow she wasn’t surprised to... Sign in to see full entry.

Waiting for that guy to call me...

He said he'd call me at 3:00 - if that's NY time, then it'll be 4:00 Central time. Which will be a whole 'nother hour after Sunday when we spring forward. The switch to daylight savings time comes earlier now than it used to - it's oft confusing. Richard said he'd call. A getting-to-know-you kind of... Sign in to see full entry.

Big Sale Day at The Center - also the primary election

Every local or primary election day, the Center becomes a polling place. Which means the county workers drop by a week ahead of time to stack the voting booths and election judge's folding tables along the walls of the big room. There will be (we hope) hundreds of voters coming through our doors... Sign in to see full entry.

Who Stole My Hat? (a play in one act)

Scene 1: A round table for six in The Center, a group of older women eat lunch while they wait for Bingo to start. These four and the occasional “guest” have sat at this same table every Tuesday and Friday for a couple of years. They are chums. But today there is a disturbance in the force. Mary: I... Page Publishing Co., out of NYC

Well, I got an email from my Page rep., fwd-fwd it to my lawyer. She reports that this company has an A rating from the BBB in New York, with only a few complaints, that they are apparently well respected in the business. The packet they sent me by US Mail explains the money end of the distribution... Sign in to see full entry.

By George, I think I've got it! A title... (or not... sigh)

Bloody Hell and a Slice of Pie. How's that for a title? "Mother was salt of the earth. But if she’d catch ya doing something stupid, she’d give ya bloody hell and a cuppa tea. Sit ya down at the table, serve you a slice a pie with the one hand and a smack in the back of the head with the other.... Sign in to see full entry.

Writing is easy; Publishing ain't

For some reason I've come to like the word "ain't" even though it's not considered good English grammar. It rhymes with "cain't" and paint and saint. Grandma Lucy pronounced it "cain't" although she tended to use King James' English and salted her sentences with "thee" and "thou." What a quaint... Sign in to see full entry.

The "Bern"

This is the craziest, most contentious election season I can remember. And I remember quite a few. I remember the front page photo of Harry Truman holding up a copy of some newspaper headline with the caption "Dewey Wins." Harry had a smile on his face that day! I remember the "I Like Ike" campaign... Sign in to see full entry.

Decisions, Decisions --

Saw one of those "expert" lists of character traits according to zodiac sign yesterday, and had to laugh. Says Libras have a hard time making a decision. And then it came to me that I've been sitting on any number of decisions "forever" and what this does is stop all progress. So I decided to paint... Sign in to see full entry.
