Maybe that is why over the years she became as she is.
Mother made all our clothes when we were little, yes, Simplicity patterns. I was supposed to wear big sisters hand me downs and used to long to grow into her pretty things. Trouble was Sis had beautiful dark curls and me I had white straight hair and white comlection and Blue that looked so lovely on Sis made me look as though I was about to pass out.

Poor old Bobbie, I bet some of the others would have liked to refuse. Talking of make do and mend I did notice once a little gypsy girl walking home from school her overcoat was a hessian sack. No charity shops in those days and of course clothes were on coupon rationing.
