ABOUT THE REAL SQUIRRELS

There are four squirrels in this neighborhood, two of whom live in my yard or just across the street. These two are Itchy and White Ears. DAYS OF OUR BACKYARD SQUIRRELS

White Ears scampered across the driveway and lawn to climb the trunk of a budding cherry tree in the next door neighbor’s yard. She’d decided against nesting there long ago. The other crew repeated the process on the second maple where White Ears had her nest. The ground crew picked up branches that fell to the ground and carried them to the grinder behind the box truck. A human passing by the house at #10 Brick Street observed Tomcat on a branch of the maple tree, yowling pitifully. The branch was too high for him to reach up and get the cat, so he pulled out a cell phone and called the fire department. Soon the Brick Street troop’s domain was full of first...
