It was our first Christmas back in Salkum after the 1947-48 school year when Mom found a foster home for the three of us kids while she;d gone to Seattle for cancer treatments. She was still shaky and fragile by the time we were able to move back into our tiny little house and get back in the school... Sign in to see full entry.

STUBBY THE MAGIC SQUIRREL AND TOMCAT
There he was, little daredevil, poised to jump from the garage roof, bouncing with anticipation as he screwed up his courage. It was a good twelve feet from that perch by the rain gutter to the grass below. He flipped and skittered up the sloping shingles, thinking to take a run at it and fly into... HEARTBREAK SEASON
All hell broke loose here on Friday night as a tornado tore through the Amazon distribution warehouse just outside of town. Six employees, who had almost no time to hunker down before the wall blew out and the roof collapsed, were killed. Terrible as this is, compared to what happened in Mayfield,... Branson, MO
In another life my hubby and I took our kids to Silver Dollar City in Branson, MO for a summer excursion. We rode the train, enjoyed the fake train robbery and the funny conductor's comments. We watched the craftsmen making rolling pins or carving an eagle out of a huge stump of wood. We tasted the... Sign in to see full entry.

UPDATE:
Just heard from my son who works at a warehouse just up the road a bit from the Amazon place that got hit by the tornado/high winds this a.m., with injuries and fatalities. He had to take a detour home, but made it safely. Also heard my granddaughter in Tennessee is OK. Stay safe, everybody. Sign in to see full entry.
TOTO, WE'RE NOT IN KANSAS ANY MORE

World War II Song I knew only the chorus to:
"Mademoiselle from Armentières Parlez-vous? Mademoiselle from Armentières Parlez-vous? Mademoiselle from Armentières Never been kissed for 20 years Hinky dinky parlez-vous." and when I checked Google I found this verse (new to me) "She's the hardest working girl in town but she makes her living... YOU CAN TAKE THOSE HATS AND ...
A few days ago I posted a "help me" bit on FB - looking for suggestions about where to donate a few dozen crocheted beanies and scarves. One friend suggested the local food pantry. Bagged up 30 or so, delivered and they said thanks. Our food pantry also does coats & school clothes, school supplies,... Sign in to see full entry.

OH, CHRISTMAS TREE...
According to yesterday's evening news, the average price for a farm-grown Christmas tree is $100. The high price is no doubt going to shove even reluctant buyers into the local Wally World for an artificial one that can be used for a dozen years if that's what they want. So naturally this story... Sign in to see full entry.

WHEN YOU CROSS THAT LINE, LOOK OUT!
When I was fourteen, we'd lived in the hell hole that's listed on the map as Salkum for about three years. For all that time my kid sis, bro and myself had been targets of a gang of cousins and their cohorts who thought they owned the town. They harassed us, threatened to 'pants' us and send us home...
