I met someone who had fought in WWII. He was there the day one of the camps was liberated. Very sad and yet uplifting.

I was told lately that when some of the camps were liberated, those with the pink triangles (gay) were put back inside to wait. I need to do some research to verify it, but the person was insistent, so I have to wonder...

when I was nursing the Holocaust survivors were aging and coming into hospital for different types of surgery. The numbers tattooed on their arms. I just couldn't help but give them extra attention and care...then HIV cases were coming into Hospital as well.

Re: Sea Gypsy

You're right. The Nazis also rounded up gays - instead of the yellow star, they were forced to wear a pink triangle on their clothing. But I didn't learn about that part of the holocaust until the 90s.

Thank you for sharing your first-hand experience with people who had survived or who had not survived the Holocaust. My heart breaks for each of them. The cruelty of that unspeakable regime is unfathomable. And so many people forget that there were others in the death camps who were not Jewish. No one could be different from what was "acceptable." We shall never forget.

We must never forget. Sometimes things appear to be too painful to remember.

Re: Good Morning

Goldiec, you've asked questions that millions have asked. I cannot understand how a man can convince so many to follow him along that hateful path, but sometimes our own country seems to be divided politically in an all-too-similar way.

Good Morning

Pat, I've never been able to watch anything about the Holocaust.  It is so terrible that I just can't deal with it.  I always wonder why someone didn't just kill Hitler.  I also question how one man could be so evil?  All the families that were starved and killed along with children are hard for me to imagine.  Why did he have to hate everyone so much is a question that I don't have an answer to?

Good morning

What an amazing and terrifying time that you experienced in our world's history. It was a nasty war filled with horrifying hate crimes orchestrated by that dictator bastard Hitler. I sincerely hope that he burned in Hell. That had to be quite a bit for a young woman to take in. You have lived the life of a hundred people. Your stories are vivid, intriguing, and fascinating. I feel privileged that you share them with us.
