It snowed last night and there was quite a lot lying on the ground between Letchworth Garden City and Welwyn Garden City this morning. I suppose some bright spark will be saying 'it's good for the gardens!' although it looked beautiful from the train, it wasn't so pleasant trying to de-ice the car... Sign in to see full entry.

Chattering classes
It was freezing in Cambridgeshire this morning - literally. Thankfully the train carriage was warm and sleep-enabling. That was until two 'chaps' got on and filled the remaining space with so much of their own hot air that they had to open the window to cool themselves and everyone else down again.... Dull and yet bright
Attended a specatacularly dull 'management' meeting this morning. We kick off each week with these meetings which are really a stage on which petty internal politics and score settling can take place. The characters have egos which border on the manic and personal agendas are presented as corporate... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday after the Friday before
I had a very tiring end to my week. Yesterday I had to travel to Cookham in Berkshire. It's not especially far away and I was debating whether or not to drive but, in the end, decided that the train would be less stressful. I've blogged about it in my BookMark blog today. If I tell you that it took... Sign in to see full entry.

Addenbrooke's
I had an appointment at my local hospital today. The local hospital just happens to be one of England's biggest research centres and certainly one of East Anglia's key medical facilities. Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge really feels like a small town or 'partnership' as large building programmes... Sign in to see full entry.

Technology: problems and solutions
I'm following a philosophy at the moment that no matter what the problems that each day may throw up, there will always be solutions. They may be hidden and take some time to find but they will be there, somewhere. One of the web suppliers we work with inadvertently did some testing yesterday,... Sign in to see full entry.

Minefield
Minefield is a word that is completely abused in common parlance, I think; so much so that it actually has the effect of desensitizing the gravity and seriousness the word should imply. I thought about that this morning while sitting in my office and watching people negotiate internal and external... Sign in to see full entry.

Windmills of my mind
I wrote in my BookMark blog this morning about a trip into Cambridge yesterday. we passed a windmill and I was remembereing all the happy times we've spent on trips to 'find' windmills throughout East Anglia. The children were younger then but the details are as clear in my mind now as when we first... Sign in to see full entry.

Writers are landmarks
I came across a quote today from Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton (no, I'd never heard of him before either!) which said that "writers are the main landmarks of the past." I suppose I'd always thought of pictures and photographs as performing this role, rather than words. In reality, it's a combination of... Sign in to see full entry.

eBooks
Work has been really busy this week so I haven't managed to any real writing. Having said that I am spending hours each day in corporate communications - emails, documents etc - and so I suppose I am shaping my craft each time, even though it isn't on poetry or fiction. One thing I am bombarded with... Sign in to see full entry.
