I agree with Sam; I think they complement each other.

imho, words convey one expression of the presenter but if tooled correctly can present several expressions simultaneously, hoping to allow the reader to imprint there own essence into the very words as if addressed to them. And a bad ass photo is always cream on the cake (so to speak) Thank you for sharing

I think they are both needed to paint a whole picture of what has happened before. Photographs give a two dimensional idea of what was there and how it looked, but words...words convey feelings and depth to a situation. No picture could portray the beauty and power of War and Peace, or relate human tragedies or excellent moments as words can. Together I think they are more complete, but if I had to choose... I would always choose words to portray the past. Great post!

Malcolm
I don’t think either one surpasses the other in terms of leaving an imprint of the past but words which capture the essence of the time in which they were written paint a powerful picture. Captured on paper on within books they stand the test of time.

Words or Pictures... that is the question...
I guess there's no contest... it's how it is expressed... either by words or by pictures... both can be powerful and surely can be landmarks... remember the oral tradition of our ancestors... when there was no camera yet ( but then again... there were drawings.... hmmmmm
)
But I must admit I am biased... I can write (at least I think I can
) and I can't take good photos... now that I admitted I'm biased... words expressed in essays, poetry, journal, stories will surely be landmarks of our times... and YOU are now a part of it...
