So true
We use words so loosely. Could this be why we need ever increasing images of savagery and violence in our TV dramas, because we desensitise ourselves so much?

I suspect
that you would find works on Non Violent Communication of interest, if you have not already read any. I agree that much in language is misused, cliches and purple prose devalue powerful images by over use, as we also devalue powerful words in the same way.
I would be happy to recommend a book if you so desire.

Malcom, The words we use create worlds of pain or pleasure. We should use them wisely as you point out.
