Well, it finally happened...

Judith Regan of Regan Books (an imprint of HarperCollins), which attempted to publish the OJ Simpson book If I Did It, has finally been fired. Regan had been headbutting with HC CEO Jane Friedman for a long time and was axed on Friday. Even though Regan is gone, the imprint will continue, even though its future is in question (the offices are in LA even though the rest of the HarperCollins company is in New York). In addition to the OJ Simpson book, Judith Regan was raising a lot of eyebrows... Sign in to see full entry.

Well, here I am in sunny Arizona!

Except, not as sunny as I'd hoped and definitely not as warm. Still, I'm on vacation and that's what counts. The thing I love about this state are the highways, that stretch forever--you know, the ones that have street numbers that look like California ZIP codes. There's something truly magical about the desert, this time of year. I don't quite know what it is, but mabe I'll figure it out sometime on my vacation. Well, that's about all for now... Back to high school

I remember high school as being very testosterone-driven. In 2002, when I graduated from a private boarding school in New Jersey, the school of about 430 students was roughly 60% male, 40% female; and the ratio of boy/girl dorms was 2:1. The school has never quite recovered from that 55-year period, though it would like to think of itself as fully equal. I... Sign in to see full entry.

How many Brooklynites are this stupid?

You can die, but you can't leave Brooklyn. In November, a morgue worker in Brooklyn stole the wallet of a dead man and, in a feat of tactical brilliance, used the man's debit card in an ATM across the street from the morgue, taking $3000 out of the account. Who the hell does stuff like this? Imagine being the widow of the dead man and finding out through the bank that this was happening. Anyways, the man who stole the wallet is being charged for grand larceny and first-degree identity theft. All... Sign in to see full entry.

A story idea and some temp work

Right now I'm in midtown, at a temp assignment I received late yesterday evening. I was going to spend today doing all the last-minute things that needed to be done before going on vacation (laundry, exercise at the gym, etc), but that plan went out the window. Still, its good money. My job's a receptionist one in the office of a real estate developer. I'll be here until 6 pm; the office has its holiday party today and everyone is out. It gives me a chance to catch up on my reading--especially... Sign in to see full entry.
