It's a cold morning, and the doves showed up to forage on the feeder, then went to huddle up in the nesting corner. Temps in the 20s overnight will be still lower, even single-digits, over the weekend, they say. Poor doves, I want to invite them in, but that's not a thing. Meanwhile, Estes Park is under evacuation orders. You may recall that I used to visit my sister who lived up there until last January when she moved down to a senior community in Boulder. Today her old home is at the edge of... Sign in to see full entry.

Soup for breakfast
I am simmering some tomato basil soup this morning with a few shrimp and the last of the crab that was procured for my grandson's birthday pizza. I tossed in the last 3 inches of little zucchinis, collecting them before tonight's hard freeze (24F expected) and added some fresh basil, too. And half a lemon's juice. Soup makes an easy, quick breakfast, and can be low in carbs and fats as a 'normal' American breakfast is not. Which reminds me of a poem I wrote years ago, sitting in a Denny's...... more sunset photos
It's a quiet autumn day, temps rising to mid 70s. By the weekend, I hear we are to expect snow flurries. Friday I'll be bringing in the herbs again. I've written in my Loosely Speaking blog about this morning. Now all's about hanging out here, having a bit of breakfast, and Embers and me being each other's warm spot in a chilly house. She has been especially attentive since I've been spending, on some days, hours out in the world. Yesterday it was a bit of treasure-hunting at a couple of thrift... Sign in to see full entry.

Sometimes, Tuesday is the first day of the week.
We are done with birthdays for a while... Diets can get back on track, nearly all the projects around the birthdays are accomplished, plans played out. The proof of the menu is in the photos. Last night was disturbed. Just after I turned out the light, suddenly my face felt hot. Not fever hot, but sunburn hot. Then my arms... hot, itchy, just this side of pain. I only know one thing that causes this: an OD on niacin. Somehow, taking all my vitamins and meds before bed, as I often do, brought... Sign in to see full entry.

More birthdays in the family
It's a grey day, chilly and only the turning leaves make it colorful. The big maple has begun to make its transition from soft green to brilliant yellow. Tomorrow is my grandson's birthday. He's about to be 22, this stepson of my Maryland daughter, and lives next door in Charlie's side of this duplex. He is a big fan of food, has always been noted for it, and his choices run a wide range of tastes, from McD's to Bonefish Grill which is just a bit upscale from Red Lobster. He loves crab and other... Sign in to see full entry.

A Good Day
It's a beautiful clear day, no dust haze, no smoke in the air. Charlie and I drove up to the County Citizen Resource Center and dropped our ballots in the box, got our little 'I Voted' stickers. Over 10 million Americans have already cast their ballots so far, ten times the number of votes cast by three weeks ahead of the 2016 election. That's how many Americans see how important this election is, and also how great is the awareness of possible, even likely voting interference. It wasn't quite... Sign in to see full entry.

New day, new week...
Starting a new week, reading a few folks here and taking time to comment. I took some time away from focusing my days online, trying to get out more. Once a week, a short road trip for pleasure, and once every week or so for groceries. Being home in only my own company--except for my almost-22 yr old cat and my son who comes by every few days--it becomes too easy to turn too much inward. This morning I woke, deciding to turn outward. One of the young doves is still making the nest its home.... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday again!
The time goes so swiftly on the wing, as it were... as are those dovelings mentioned last month. One still hangs around the nest and the deck, the other has flown into the world. Or at least into the tree out front where it calls softly, encouragingly--or so I imagine. Charlie is having his dishwasher replaced this weekend, by the landlord himself. We have a great landlord who gets right at whatever job needs to be done... but it usually takes more than one visit to get it done. There are always... Sign in to see full entry.

Short and sweet, today's road trip
We spent a couple of hours at the Bear Creek Dog Park, the best in the area for its variety and size. I took pictures... My camera did a funny thing, and perhaps you will enjoy it. It made a kind of video lead-up to each shot. I didn't realize it was doing that until I got home and started going through the pictures. The catch is, I don't know if I can get it up on flickr, so I am loading the still shots. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C I see now that it is loaded at the downstream end of these photos.... The Cake
There was no hope for my dieting while this continued to lurk in the freezer... Shared it with the guys next door on Saturday night, and with Charlie each day since. I gave him the last piece today. Now we can both re-start our diets. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C It is by no means as pretty as a bakery cake would have been, but it surely was as tasty! Don't fret... no calories for looking! By the way, frozen strawberries are like sherbet! Sign in to see full entry.
