My sister and a couple of my friends are great at it - make lovely things. Me not so much.

Re: Re: Goldiec,
Ciel, I think you have a real talent. I believe when you can crochet you open a whole new world. There are so many beautiful things you can make for gifts or decorations.

Re: Goldiec,
Crochet is so much easier and for me, more gratifying than knitting. Knitting progresses slowly, and has too many moving parts for me!
Crochet also teaches about saving pennies: one little stitch at a time grows into something useful and wonderful!

Re: sassyass,
I also learned the basics of knitting and crochet when I was little, and I had no control over the tension of the yarn, pulling everything so tight that finally the needles or hook couldn't get through the piece! I gave up in frustration. But when I was in college, I tried again, and suddenly, it all worked! I felt so... powerful! I beat the frustration!

Ripping out and starting over is half the fun. In my case, it keeps my
hands busier for a longer period of time. That straight edge thing is a bugger.

Good Morning
Ciel, I've learned a lot from your post. The one thing that stands out above all else is the fact that you have way more patience than I do. I have no idea how to crochet and I wish I would have learned but my favorite hobby on earth is writing. One time I decided I was going to learn to knit. I went and bought everything I needed including beautiful yarn. I brought all my supplies home and sat down to knit. By the time it was all said and done my yarn was in a huge knot and I took everything and threw it in the garbage. I couldn't take it. My aunts all knew how to make beautiful creations but I did not have their talent.

Good evening
It is a gift to be able to crochet something that is actually considered wearable. I learned to crotchet just for a minute back when I was eleven. My elderly next-door neighbor took the time to teach me the craft. I wish that I would have stayed with it, but I was too busy trying to play the violin that my dad insisted on my learning. I moved on from both and found my passion for photography and art.
