Sunday, already?

Sleepy morning, here... woke a bit early, got up and fuzzled around a while, anyway. Friday and Saturday were taken up with housekeeping, including going out and renting a carpet shampooer, due to a bad, staining kind of spill on the bad old beige carpet in the dining room. I'd tried dealing with it the night before with very limited success, so... $30 for the shampooer, well-worth the cost. And thanks, big, huge thanks to Charlie who could wrangle the hardware! Transitions

Here it is, Wednesday again... The doves are back on the nest, the first of the tomatoes has gone red, and yesterday evening we dumped out all the water-catchers on the back porch and replanted the biggest tomato plant and the pepper plants. Why the replanting, you wonder? Well, they both were potted up in big pots with insufficient drainage, and were drowning. Overwatered plants can die, their leaves sagging and going yellow... Sleep, sleeping, and sleepiness

Inspired by Pat's post today... It is so frustrating to wake after only 3 hours, and not be able to get back to sleep! I have a decorative light that throws moving color across the ceiling--like my own private Lights! It runs for 4 hours, so when I wake, and it's still flowing across my 'sky' I know it's one of those naps. Sleep comes easier, though, both getting to sleep and getting back to sleep, with the gentle background provided by 'Alexa's' nature sounds app: Crickets and Frogs of Florida,... Sunday Morning Poetry

Waking and showering on this Sunday morning, starting a load of washing after I've used what hot water I want... Waking the laptop, it opens to a page of our CC's poetry which I was reading yesterday. Reading, then following down into older posts, and doing a 'search' to find something referenced just lately, and finding the lost bits... doveling update

The first youngster flew out of the nest, and made the boldest first-flight I've observed yet: all the way out to the big blue spruce! Usually, the first one flutters around the deck area for a day or two before attempting such a flight. This one went from nest to hanging chair to one of the plants hanging on the deck railing, and then out to the spruce. It's perhaps a 30-ft distance--as the dove flies. Cleared the air last night...

After several days of smoke-haze obscuring the mountains and filtering the sunlight, thunderstorms and quiet rains cleaned the air overnight, and today the mountains are visible through considerably less haze. The rain we had here was not of the rumble-bangers we saw in the distance, though the lightning visible from the back porch was phenomenal! There were flashes to the south and southwest mostly, and much horizontal lightning striking across a 35 degree sideways arc of the sky, from Pike's... Sign in to see full entry.

This came up in conversation

As his senior project a few years ago, Charlie created a devised performance called THE BULL OF KNOSSOS. A divised performance, if you are unfamiliar with it, begins with a loose, unscripted plan. The cast is assembled, and together with the director, a script is decided upon and produced. Monyawnday

Not a great night for sleep. Could be I had too much coffee too late in the day. I know I had too much sugar. There was a pecan pie on the premises... less of it today. Much less. No pecans at all. The current brace of dovelings are quite big and fully feathered bundles sitting on the nest. No sign of flight yet, but I give 'em a week or so more. The air is full of haze--maybe smoke and ash blowing in from all the Western fires. No rain in the past several days, none expected until scattered... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday sunshine

It will be warm today, a good summer heat but not an ennervating, killing heat. Mid-80s F, the forecast says. Yesterday it was about the same as Charlie and I joined my high school buddy and her family for a dino-experience. You may see ads for it--JURASSIC QUEST--if it is coming to your neighborhood. We went to the walk-through version a few years ago, found it a bit disappointing. This is the drive-through version, set up in a huge parking lot. The dinosaurs are pretty funky, un-maintained,... Midweek morning

It's a pleasant day so far, little chance of rain, and temps only to the low 80s. Sounds good to me, though the plants will be wanting watering. As you may have seen in yesterday's posting of photos, the garden is thriving, and we have made it much nicer to walk around the boxes and tubs by laying a floor of large wood-chip mulch over what used to be tall and thriving weeds.
