Start of the day: coffee and memories

I'm sitting here half-watching a British detective show while I slowly finish my still slightly warm coffee... When I was a kid, I sometimes went with my dad in to his work. He was an astronomer, working at the Hayden Planetarium in New York. One summer I quit a bad job--mother's helper for a bad mother...and he gave me a job at the Planetarium doing some paperwork, compiling reports on sun spots. Every day started with him and his colleagues having coffee and pastries along with casual... Sign in to see full entry.

Another Summer Thursday

This morning started early, and included a drive to Aurora, southeast of Denver, to deliver Charlie and his housemate Rob to a gaming convention. It's Rob's thing, an opportunity to show and demonstrate his games. He invents board games and invests in having them produced professionally. The hope is that he will sell a few, and also that he'll catch the eye of game publishers who attend such events. So on this occasion, Charlie is along as the helper. I was home again right after noon. I didn't... Sign in to see full entry.

Sunday Afters

And here we are, home again. Charlie was successfully fetched from a bus station/park'n'ride lot I have never been to before but that turned out to be quite easy to find and access. The timing wasn't bad--I only waited half an hour before his ride from the mountains arrived, and I had been smart enough to bring a book along. There were a few rainshowers but nothing blinding or dramatic. No traffic jams on the way home, just the usual crazy selfish stupid drivers who pass on the right, who cut in... Sunday anticipations

Looks like a quiet Sunday coming on... The temperature overnight dropped down to 51 and this morning I actually dug out a sweater to go over the T-shirt I slept in. Leftover egg foo yung this morning... I like how this one place cooks it, but they really don't understand the concept of adding vegetables and/or meat to it. I added my own to this last night--stir-fried sugar snap peas, onion, and mushrooms. The gravy is tasty. But I need to find another place that makes it better--and delivers!... Road Tripping!

Ten hours of roads high-speed and paved, and low, low speed washboard un-paved, with miles of moderate-speed 2-lane paved through the amazing Poudre Canyon... If you have a map, look north of Fort Collins, and follow Hwy 14 into the Rockies. Oh, and a practically no-speed paved section, 2-3 miles of I 25 that took an hour to get through. Total miles: 250. How do the organizers of events like this LARP Charlie is attending this weekend, find these sites? Originally, he had planned to bus to... Sign in to see full entry.

Adventuresome Friday

Charlie has a LARP event up north this weekend, and while he might have gotten himself there with public transport plus a ride from friends, we agreed it would be more fun for both of us if I drive him there. He might get that ride back to Denver with his friends on Sunday, and I'll pick him up where they drop him off. It's near a town north of Fort Collins, up among the mountains, or at least, the foothills. I've never been in that area, so it will be possibly/probably a photo day, too. It's a... Rainy Tuesday--Hurrah!

Woke late today, for me. I've been usually up any time after 4, most often near 5, but the past couple of days it has been nearer 7 or 8, today--8:30! Maybe it's something to do with the falling temps here, or the rain that finally came in accompanied by lightning and thunder yesterevening. Charlie had a theater meeting to go to--He will be making a few props for the show they are setting in motion--and though he was willing to walk the distance, I picked him up afterwards. Gotta keep your kids... Sign in to see full entry.

alarums in the night!

About 4 in the morning, a car alarm went off. It was very close and loud, and went on for some time until it abruptly stopped. Somewhere in there, I woke enough to wonder if it was my truck: it was that close and that loud. Then it stopped. Why would my truck alarm go off? I don't lock it as there is nothing in there worth taking, and I have had to clean up glass from broken windows twice, and pay for new windows, for thieves to find that out. Not even loose change. So, what set it off? And who... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, the things we put up with!

And here it is, suddenly Friday! It's gonna be hot today, in the mid-80s with no promise even, of afternoon/evening thunderstorms. Got word from the Seattle kids yesterday that covid is in the house. Everyone has tested positive, though symptoms are light and already abating for the dad who was the first to test positive, and the younger kiddy has no symptoms at all. A year or more ago, I'd be in a panic, but it's so much milder than it was, it's just another health trial to get through these... Sign in to see full entry.
