Looks like heavy weather coming in today... dark clouds to the south, and chilly winds with significant gustiness predicted. Like this, predictions say, until Friday when things begin to warm up again. So looking forward to real springtime warmth here! This place is littered with cat toys all over the floor, and Pixiechops is curled up ignoring them all at the moment. This is a moment which will not last. She still has little outbursts of vocalizing, and I have begun to wonder if she is having... Sign in to see full entry.

BABYLON tonight
Just got back home tonight after attending a very special event: The first screening of a film called BABYLON. In it were several of the young actors I've met through Charlie's years in theater classes and shows at the UCCS. I have videos of them in student shows together, and the film itself was written and directed by another of them, who also acts in it. It was pretty wonderful to see them all acting in a professional independent film and really good! The story was dark and tragic, set in a... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy Monday
Out and about early this morning, for a doctor appointment that included my second booster shot, and a new card to replace the one that got a bit damp when Pixie dumped my breakfast into my purse. Maybe I will get around to laminating this one. The mountains are behind a haze today. It's not wildfire smoke, but dust that has been kicked up by the recent high winds. Should be a nice day, though, temperature wise. One thing leading to another, as it so often does, I stopped at the grocery store... Sign in to see full entry.

New Horizons
The wind has died down, though it will be around 20mph later this afternoon. It's supposed to be warm, though--up in the mid-70s, and I have so been looking forward to that! Waking up 5ish this morning, it's now near 6:30 and the sky is blue and pink. Charlie is polishing up his resume and gallery/showcase of his various arts at The Firethieves Studio on-line, as a new opportunity has arisen. An old friend of ours who used to run the kids summer theater in Olympia has put a call out for a... Sign in to see full entry.

The Cat Goes Up
Embers never cared to use the high shelf on the cat tree. Violetta also did not much care about getting the mountain-lion view on the world. But this cat, Kementari Pixiechops, Goes Up. She likes the top shelf of the tree, and she has eyed the heights of the bookshelves in my room and in the living room. Yesterday, there she was, up on the high place above the tv. I cleared stuff off of it, so it has officially become one of her places. It is only a matter of what pathways she chooses to get... Sign in to see full entry.

tax time anxieties
Suddenly realizing that it's already well into April, I've finally prevailed over the fears and worries that accompany any money matters, and got the papers together. I've figured out how much money came in from photos and writing last year. Not much in that column! Why oh why do I never get around to keeping written notes when monies flow in and out? I can track payments I've received online with a few simple clicks, but finding all that has been spent is somewhat trickier. Of course that only... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning Zoomies
As I was writing about second bloomings of the orchids my kids gave me last Mother's Day, this whimsical device erased the entire post... I know you know how that goes: suddenly and irretrievably. So... this post gets a second blossoming, too. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C There are also roots on the newest avocado seed, and the new growth on the others looks fresh and lively! It's another high-wind time, with gusts upwards of 30 mph for the next couple of days. That means bringing in the outdoor... Sign in to see full entry.

To do or Not to do...
It's a drizzly, grisly day today. It's much cooler than yesterday, but not expecting cold until tonight. In the middle of the night, Pixiechops went mad-zoomies for about an hour, attacking my feet under the bedding, my arms above the covers, and whatever loose stuff she found around the room when I ejected her from the bed. I can't let her out of the room without supervision, this little bird-botherer, especially when she is in this mood. She may need to have her own room to play out these... Sign in to see full entry.

Pixiechops: The secret histories of cats
As time goes by, as we get to know each other better, it becomes more and more evident that there are questions that no one accessible can answer. That's the nature of adoption when the adoptee is unable to speak for herself. She has to count on her human carer to translate the little ways she expresses herself. Kind of like toddlers and children who don't have the words. Pixie has some peculiar behaviors I've never seen in a cat before, and I have lived with quite a few cats over the years! For... As promised earlier today:
https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C I meant to mention... That basket I've had for years, and none of my previous kitties were in the least interested in it, so it's a very satisfying thing to see Pixie owning it! Sign in to see full entry.
