Photos from the LARPing group

https://flic.kr/s/aHsm8wPAR8 Photos from the Great Shed Cleanup. Check out those colorful tentacles! They sorta fit in the back of the truck diagonally, and I meant to take the picture, but was tired and hungry when we got home, and forgot about it. Sign in to see full entry.

After the shed

It was cold and misty/rainy all day, and we only stayed until 2:30. There were a couple dozen Alliance members on hand, going through bins and bags, masks, costuming and props. Looking at the shed, it seemed impossible it all was in there! This is such a great group of people--friendly and welcoming, free of power-trips and ego-trips, a real rarity in gaming groups of any kind. The people in charge are a middle-aged couple of exceptional generosity of spirit. They welcome me as much as they do... Sign in to see full entry.

Screams and hollers in the night...

Today started too early--4am--because of a huge fight in the front yard, under the Compass Rose stage. Yowling and screaming got me out of bed, onto the deck just in time to see a cat tearing off around the side of the house. Rob, also out on his deck, didn't see the cat, but spotted three smallish raccoons diving down the storm drain across the street. The lighting at night comes from a street light of an orange tone, but I am pretty sure it was an orange cat. Possibly it was my old friend, Big... Sign in to see full entry.

Back from the adventures...

We got home around 3:30, pretty well chilled, and more than ready for a good lunch. Luckily I roasted a chicken yesterday, and it was just waiting for some attention. We made sandwiches and sat in the warm--actually turned on the heat for the first time in months!--watching a couple of colorful fantasy shows on tv, while the rain came down softly outside. By 5:30 we were both ready for naps. Tomorrow will be warmer, mid 70s, and They say, no rain. But for one day, this has been refreshing. Sign in to see full entry.

Not a cozy home Saturday

It is actually a chilly morning here, with off and on rain--an excellent day to spend home and relaxing--but it is not to be! Charlie's LARP group is meeting at their playground in Elbert CO to do what they call 'shed cleanup.' It's an hour drive from here and the weather won't be quite the same. In fact, it will be cold out there, in the 40s all day, but not as much rain is expected. Since it is a one-day event, I will hang out there, even participate though I am not feeling great. It's one of... Sign in to see full entry.

The Writing Process

It's around 7:30 and I have just had First Breakfast--one egg on a roll with a dab of mustard and two dabs of mayonnaise. The mug of hot coffee awaits my attention. Filtered sunlight plays in the bright green leaves of the big maple out front, a foreshadowing of the autumn colors to come. So begins the last day of highish heat for a while. Tomorrow, They say, a cold front will descend through western Canada, into Montana, Wyoming, and the Dakotas, and affecting us even here in central/southern... Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie's birthday today

And here it is, all hot again. Friday, down from hot to warm, and Saturday, even cool! But enough whinging about the weather here. It's not nearly as bad here as much of the rest of the country, and the world. Charlie got another present. It was an impulse that hit me when I took his housemate, Rob, up to the computer store where I got my new old laptop last week. While he got his computer troubles sorted, I hung around, and happened to glance up... High on a shelf: drones! And not nearly as... Sign in to see full entry.

Memories and Reflections

I have a few memories of my very early childhood, all from the time we lived in Maryland in a town called Gaithersburg. I remember dancing about to Hot Diggity with my sister who was 2 years older than I was. I remember going to her kindergarten class one day to see ducklings swimming around in a bathtub. I remember the big round rosebush in front of the 1-up,1-down duplex we lived in--we had the down half--and the time she fell into it and indignantly told all the amused observers, " Don't... Memories...

A few years ago, I inherited my father's record collection, and the slightly archaic device on which to play them. In fact, I was thinking sadly only a couple of weeks back about how much of the music I grew up with--ethnic and folk--simply isn't played anymore, and felt such nostalgia, that I could only hear, distantly, the echoes remaining in memory. I remember crazy-dancing with my sister, when I was 3, maybe, to Hot Diggity! There was Catch a Falling Star, later on, and mygrandpa sang My... Sign in to see full entry.

Changes and developments

Having coffee now with a new-to-me laptop on my actual lap. It's a Dell, so not nearly as hot at an HP which would literally burn my lap without a pillow and sheet of cardboard between us. For that, and other reasons, I have finally replaced the old dear. It took all day yesterday to get it and to get it up and running with my basic pages. That always means finding old passwords or setting up new ones which even when carefully made are forgotten in mere moments. And being a refurbished machine,... Sign in to see full entry.
