Walkies and Wildlife

Ah, blessed cool morning, promised much cooler day today than yesterday or yesteryesterday...! What a relief! Several actual thunderstorms made it to our neighborhood yesterday evening, and more are predicted today. Loving the rains! Whatever the weather, Charlie and Milo go walkies. They go down the street and through a parking lot to a paved path that runs along a creek that is very downhill from the path. Which is not to say that the water is always down there: after significant rainfall, it... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, what a relief it is!

Landlord just left after changing the circuit breaker and providing a proper extension cord to plug the a/c into a different circuit that can handle it better. The length--25 feet--is ideal to reach the outlet, run over the furniture and the deck doorway, behind the box games high on a shelf, and dive down behind the couch where it meets the plug of the a/c unit. To clear a path for it made it necessary to shift a few things, and some things got re-arranged, and everything got dusted. The funny... Sign in to see full entry.

And just to make the day more fun--

Well, a circuit blew and will not be reset, so no a/c upstairs until it gets fixed. The house next door (duplex) had to have its circuit box replaced last month, I guess it's time for this one now. I am waiting to hear from my landlord how he wants to handle it. It's a house from the 60s, I believe, so the whole electric system could stand replacement. Meanwhile, I am downstairs where it's ~10 F cooler than upstairs just because of being half underground at the back, and only two windows on the... Sign in to see full entry.

Hotsy Totsy!

Hot days strategies: being active in the early hours before 10 or 11; doing any cooking for the day; watering plants indoors and out. If there is anything strenuous that needs doing, it has to get done before the heat goes up and I sit down. Around 10, it's time to close curtains and windows and doors, to preserve what cool there is indoors. When it gets really hot later on, it helps quite a lot to wet down my head which would gratify, if they knew, all those people who have ever thought I... Sign in to see full entry.

Chaos Cat Alarms

Another morning that started before the sun rose. Again, something hitting the floor with wrong noises. Pixie Chaos Cat has discovered the shelves beside the desk and in front of the non-moving side of the glass door. I put collectibles, special books, my collection of Tarahumara baskets there. One of those little open baskets contains my Interesting Dice collection. it makes quite a clatter when it hits the floor. When I rescued it this time--not the first!--I saw only 4 of the assorted dice on... Sign in to see full entry.

Too early up, and ready to go back to bed!

Woke up today around 3:45, from a dream of doing battle with the xenomorphs from ALIEN, which is reason enough to wake up, even without something crashing down from a certain Chaos Cat who wakes up and goes exploring during the night. Well, I went to bed around 11pm, so that's four hours more or less... Not a full night's sleep. But I tested blood sugar right away, and it was in the properly low range, below 150. After waking, I'm supposed to eat something within half an hour, and also have to... Sign in to see full entry.

Onward through the day...

Covid Tag has finally tagged someone in the close family: Charlie's dad, in Seattle, has tested positive. We are not terribly worried as his symptoms are mild, and he has a call in with Kaiser there regarding anti-viral meds. Charlie is marinating another pork loin for char sui, and plans a bbq tonight. My friend Joanne will be coming over, and we will be watching THE NAME OF THE ROSE together. Meanwhile, it's HOT again, temps into the 90s. There could be thunderstorms late afternoon, and I... Escape!

Last night, we got Pixie into a halter that is meant to attach to a leash to go for walkies Outside. I left it on her so she can get used to it. So this morning, she crept into the space between the kitchen counters and the dishwasher. The halter got hung up on something, and she was stuck! I tried to get my hand in there to unlatch the halter... It took several tries, but sitting on the floor, I was finally able to do it, and a while later, pulled the halter out without a cat in it. But after... Sign in to see full entry.

Clock-watching

It is 8am as I start this post. I am watching for 11, when the next round of Jan 6 Committee Hearings come on. Charlie will be over to watch with me. From what's been previewed about this session, it will be explosive. Have you seen the new pictures coming in from the Webb space telescope? Our minds can take in what it is told about the size of the universe, about the numbers of galaxies, but the information is really truly anchored when we see it! Between one thing and another, we do indeed... Sign in to see full entry.

The fever has broken...

I have no doubt, though, that it will return. Still after several days in the 90s, I am so looking forward to a day that will not, according to Them, reach 80. Winds up to 20mph, thunderstorms, and lovely coolth--sounds great to me! But I'd better batten down a few things before the wind blows in. There isn't much going on here that isn't what usually is going on. I haven't written lately because there has not been much to write about. But I will try to dredge some stuff out of my over-heated... Sign in to see full entry.
