Another hot one here, and we are only on the edge of the terrible heat across the midwest, east, and south! Charlie is planning on attending a boffer/fighting practice today, and will take lots of water with him. I'm not so sure strenuous activity is a good idea. Maybe they will just sit around and swap boffer stories! We watched GHOSTBUSTERS: AFTERLIFE last night. It was pretty good, actually, and it is clearly the set up for a new series or movie. One line I am saving up for future use as... Sign in to see full entry.

Keeping cool...
Preparing for a hot day: closing doors and windows mostly (The Agent of Chaos reserves 7 inches of space to go out to the deck); a/c is on in the living room to better resist the rising temps outside; I'm doing some cleaning up of the downstairs spaces where it will be maybe 10 degrees cooler than upstairs; making ice for iced tea/coffee/water through the day. The movie-going has been postponed to Monday when we can hope for a less occupied theater, and will still be seeking heat-beating spaces... Sign in to see full entry.

Gonna be a hot weekend...
Another too-early waking, though a solid night of sleep was accomplished, led to an early snack, a few minutes of online review of overnight stuff, and going back to bed with a book, and a nap for another couple of hours. It's a lovely day, temps still not quite to 80F, and sunshine filtering through high cloud cover. It will climb through the afternoon to mid/high 80s, and tomorrow they promise 90s. I think tomorrow I will find things to do downstairs in the cool. Some of the day will be in the... Sign in to see full entry.

Slow starting Thursday
Unsettled and insufficient sleep last night... Nap this morning after breakfast! Weird little dreams... It's in the 80s today, not nearly as hot as other places but hot enough for me! It's a low-key kind of day... I may go out and shop for some purple potatoes and purple sweet potatoes at Sprouts today, and make a stop at Trader Joe's for some other things I can only find there. I am thinking of their jars of grilled artichoke hearts. Another project for today: trimming the wicked claws of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Wednesday's slow start
It's well on towards noon, and I still have wisps of headache since waking 4 hours ago. If today's cup of coffee doesn't banish it, I'll take a tylenol, or a nap. Possibly both. Today I am watching a show from the UK--PORTRAIT ARTIST OF THE YEAR, a contest of amateur and pro portrait artists. The artists in groups of three have 4 hours in the preliminary rounds to do a portrait of one of three celebrity sitters. At the moment, it's Sian Phillips, Phil Davis, and a guy I don't know of. Previously... Sign in to see full entry.

Saturday shenanigans!
Anyone know how to disable the autolock feature on a vehicle? I would really like to know! For the second time ever, I managed to close the door with the key in the ignition. It only takes a couple of seconds. So I called AAA and was informed as of this week there is a new policy: You have to call your own service provider and try to get a reimbursement by providing a receipt to AAA. Guess who is going to drop AAA after several years of membership. Back to the yellow pages to find a local... Sign in to see full entry.

Friday shenanigans
Here it is, finally getting down to my morning writing at 5:30 in the afternoon! Pixiechops and I are finding a nice balance between us. Her digestive disagreeables seem to have been solved with the change in her food, she has filled out a bit, and is calming down just enough. She still ambushes me at every opportunity, but now I regard it as play, and now and then, I ambush her back! She is less of a parakeet-botherer, which makes things nicer for everyone. She is smarter than I expected when... Sign in to see full entry.

Charlie came over...
...and asked me to take some pictures. So I did: https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C He had the tabard specially made to go with the shield I had made for him by an armorer some years ago. The logo was designed by Charlie himself some time before that, and the shield was a birthday surprise. Since getting back into the LARPing, he is also participating in some medieval re-creationish groups for the fighting practice. The sword is a boffer, made by himself. He has been making them for years now, a much... Sign in to see full entry.
Remembering smiles...
Chilly and rainy today... Later in the summer I will enjoy this kind of chill, and the rain is always welcome, to moisten our drought conditions. That's all it can do, just getting the surface soil damp. My friend 1000 ft higher in the hills is getting snow. Ten inches of snow = one inch of rain. Happy June! Yesterday I paid my license tabs bill over the phone, on the last day of the one month grace period. I could have mailed a check any time since the bill arrived 6 weeks ago. I could have... Last Day of May
I've always thought of May as the month of warm sunshine, sweet flowers, new green established in the trees. I think of Guennevere dancing through the woods and fields, celebrating " the lusty month of May! " One year not long ago, I was so pleased to be flying to England in May! It was chilly and rainy, the flowers and trees were shy of showing their colors. I was leaving in June, just when the May of my daydreams began to rise! Here in Colorado, in May after May, we've had late snow storms.... Sign in to see full entry.
