long time, no write...

I know everyone likely to read this understands well such off-mood times. No other excuses or real causes, like our Adnohr's loss of power from the storms up her way in Quebec. The sun is bright again, the day starts breezy and will be downright windy by afternoon. The squirrels have about emptied the bird feeder. In view of the back glass door, they are endlessly interesting for Pixiechops. This is a cat always ready to eat, and unlike Embers who would not recognize as food anything but kibble,... Kemmentari Pixiechops, Agent of Chaos...

Yesterday was a Bad Day for living with this cat. There were several sudden cat-induced avalanches as she attempted to get at things not only out of range, but also out of bounds. The last one of the day, while I was immersed in Mesopotamian history and online game doodling, involved great gravitational crashings and the birds fluttering about in panic, and Pixie taking to the air from the top of the birdcage...! Then there was me, bellowing indignation...! As you can see from the title of this... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday...? Really?

Well, the snow is nearly gone, though where it was thickest or shaded, it is still around in little mounds. Temps in the 50s today, and some rain will see off most of the rest, I imagine. The street is bare and dry. The sky is flat and grey. The ground underneath the lilac bushes is littered with the little brown fragments of blossoms, and most of those not fallen are also that same brown, though there are a few late-bloomers flashing white here and there on the bushes. Zorro made a short visit... Sign in to see full entry.

And it keeps on coming...

It is still snowing, and is expected to continue all day and into the evening. But with rain in tomorrow and Monday's forecasts, it won't last long! https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C Today's photos added to last nights... 2pm... And the spring greens are already returning: the maple tree, the lilacs, all weighed down with this heavy wet snow have shed their loads in little avalanches. The street is bare and wet, and my truck has begun to peek out from the snowy blanket over the windshield. It will still... Sign in to see full entry.

Snow follies!

Summer yesterday, winter today and tomorrow... We expect 3-4 inches of snow. So Colorado Springs is under both a Fire and Winter Storm warnings at the same time. I have to bring the flowering plants indoors tonight, again. Charlie's LARP event is cancelled--they expect twice as much snow at the camp location, 30 miles or so north of here. I filled the gas tank today. It was something over 27 gallons, and with a gas credit of.80/gal, was $105. Driving Charlie to and from the LARP would have used... Sign in to see full entry.

The Last Hurrah

They said this is the last Denver StarFest, #45. Between increased costs for less than ideal venues, and covid probably, and people who have been making it happen just deciding they can't or don't want to keep up with it anymore, this is the end. The venue was smaller than the event needed, so it was condensed to small areas for things like the art show/auction, making it all a bit claustrophobic and limited. Happily, there was room for some of the best artists on the convention circuit, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Another weekend, another event

This weekend is the last STARFEST event ever, so the organizers declare. We have gone to it just about every year since I came out here, and sometimes had a vendor booth or table on the main floor. Charlie has had, in recent years, a space in the art show/auction. This year, he'll be there with his bears and various other arts. He will spend the weekend there after I drop him off with his goods today, and I'll go up Sunday only to catch the art auction before it closes. Each event has hosted a... Sign in to see full entry.

Spring airs and mysteries

The wind is up again... The maple boughs are tossing and waving in the wind, it's rich summer green well-developed now, though not yet as full as they will be. I look forward to the lovely green sea when they fill out, though they cut off my view from the mountains. The air smells like spring today! The lilacs, now blooming, are bouncing about outside the kitchen window. They don't send out much scent, but this year there are quite a lot of flowers. I'm watching--again--my favorite of all the... Winds of Change

And here is the wind back again, with possible gusts up to 40mph. I am wondering what climate changes have to do with this so I have looked up a few articles, and it does indeed appear that winds speeds are increasing and that climate change plays a part. However, it is linked not only to the changes human activity has amplified, but to natural climate shift cycles. This is great news for wind-energy, but it is not so good for the increase of wild fires across the globe. And it means I have to... Sign in to see full entry.

Numbers and more numbers...!

So many numbers in my life! Some less important than others, like the stats on how many of my photos on Flickr get looked at, or how many reads my blog posts are getting, and how many pennies are gathering! Then there are the important ones, the blood sugar level numbers and how they average out over 3 months. This morning that number was just above the desired maximum which is 170. For the past long while, those numbers have hovered in the mid-200s, even over 300 sometimes. These are not... Sign in to see full entry.
